Hi everyone
Just have my new D70. Haven't used it yet, can't wait-batteries charging.
I bought it from Camera House for $2,288. Might sound a bit expensive, but included the kit 18-70 kit lens, a brilliant Optex tripod, sturdy and well constructed and a decent camera bag, big enough to hold camara, flash plus and 3 other lenses, It will also hold numerous accessories like filters, batteries and spare cf cards. On top of this was packaged a top quality Marumi circular polarising filter; all for $2,288. And yes there's more 3 years extended warranty valued at $105.
Seems to be a great deal.
If you take the retail price of the extras, ie $105 for warranty, $69 for bag and $79 for the filter and $139 for the tripod of the price, I actually got the camera for $1,896, and I can claim $200 cashback from Nikon as this isn,t a "grey" camera.
Thanks to everybody for your help in the past and I look forward to future conversations and help, as I am sure I will need it.
Kindest regards
Nigel

Nigel,
Congratulations on your purchase. Remember that the new rule here is that you need to post the very first image you make with your D70 here; we won't be too harsh.
But in the meantime, read the manual, and doesn't this two hours that the battery needs for charging seem like the longest two hours ever?

Congratulations Nigel
It is always an exciting thrill to wait for the battery to charge.
Then you have to read the quick start guide!
and nervously take your first photo. AND the first photo has to be posted here. That's becoming tradition.
You made the right choice buying a D70 and we all look forward to viewing your photos.
Have fun
Graham

Nigel wasn't the only one that went out shopping today. I also got my D70 this afternoon. Got mine at The Camera Exchange. Very happy with the service there.
Looks like there is plenty to learn.
Nigel - Can i ask were you are getting your sigma 70-300 lens from? I am interested in getting one of these too.
I've been reading all i can on the web in the leadup to this purchase. I found this forum to be most useful being based in Aus. Thanks to everyone that contributes for helping me decide to buy the D70.

I'm curious.
The Camera Exchange - just confirming - a block or so of Elizabeth St in the city? If so, I've always found them to be helpful and professional - a true camera store, staffed by knowledgeable photographic people, rather than used car salespeople.
What prices are they doing?
And yes, congrats, and welcome. Enjoy the new toy.

sounds like we are talking about the same store. it was a refreshing change to walk into their store after the hustle and bustle of the elizabeth street traders. like you said - very professional.
i got the D70, 18-70 lens, UV filter and sandisk ulra II 512Mb card for $2100

I like Camera Exchange too. They know what they are talking about and I found you didn't get the usual sales talks.
Congrats to both of you on your new purchase.

Welcome to the D70 club.
Now you need to purchase from Birddog114 the
D70Users.com Pro Loop Strap which is definitely better than the one supplied by Nikon.
Look forward to your first shots!.
Cheers,

Yep, same store; thanx for the confirmation. And yes, it's a refreshing change to be able to talk to salespeople who are knowledgeable about, of all things, photography!
That's quite a reasonable deal. Well done. Don't fortget to complete your rebate form and claim back your $200. Better in your pocket than Maxwell's.
Now that your battery's been charged, go forth and make images, and show us what you can do.
And also take note of what Fozzie says - the pro-loop strap is simply amazing in the comfort it offers you.
