Has anyone had prints done at a Rabbit Photo store?
They have fairly cheap prices but I was wondering what the print quality is like.

5x7" $1
6x8" $2
8X10" $3
8x12" $4
10x15" $5

Prices are for gold members.

The $3, $4 and $5 sizes sound like a good deal as long as the quality is there. Harvey Norman in Hobart does 6X8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for $0.50 ($1 any other time). I don't know if it's just Hobart or if it's Aus wide though. At $0.50 for a 6X8, I use this to print off proofs to decide if I want them printed larger.

GC, I think Harvey Norman and Big W print 5x7 for between 20-35 cents

It was mainly the bigger prints I was wondering about. 8x10 and 8x12.

Rabbit have a 1 off introductory price for gold members of 10c for an 8x10. I might give that a go to assess the print quality.

I imagine that Rabbit photo will do an OK job, but will be unlikely to produce professional quality prints. If you don't need professional prints, then it shouldn't be a concern. As long as your system is calibrated so what you see on your screen is what their prints look like, you should be happy.

My pet hate with all these stores is that they always have "monthly bargains or specials" however they are usually on sizes that conform to the 4:5 ratio as opposed to the 3:2 ratio, which the D70 images follow.

Of course cropping the photo is easy to do, but quite often the photo looks great (and in proportion) as 3:2 ratio but cropped as an 8x10 it looks squashed or crowded. I guess we can thank all the P&S manufacturers for making their sensors follow the 4:5 ratio !

Ermm is that each? Any quantity is a bit ambigious :P *I know that it means each but just trying to be a pain ;)*

I can print up a 20x30 at a pro lab for and have it delivered to me 3 times each and I'd still be ahead of HN.

The thing I've found about getting prints done at rabbit, k-mart, HN etc... Is that not only is the quality variable between locations, but seems to vary every time I make an order too :( Sometimes it's pretty good, and sometimes not so much.

Also, I probably don't have the experience to be able to distingusih a good print from an ordinary one.. Some photos that I got done one time, I thought looked great. It was only when comparing to a different set of the same photos done at a different place that it was obvious they weren't that hot.

Mind you, most of them were happy snaps for family etc, so wasn't really too fussed. If getting enlargements made for framing, I'd be inclined to pay up a bit more to get them done by a pro lab etc.

I gave some of my bird images to some friends to be sent overseas at xmas.
the images I gave them were all 700x 350 from the web.

They took them to HN at Auburn and ran of a heap of .29cents
Is the first prints I have ever seen of any of my images and I was surprised by the quality of the prints they produced.

not sure if this quality is the norm or not but these were great.

Pirostitch who do you recommend in Melbourne, Nulabs?
They're not far from me and I feel like getting a few prints made up of some photos

Darryl, I usually use Digital Works in Hallam. You can download their app and just place your order through it from home. If you put the order through before midday, it gets to you the next business day. Delivery is $7 express post nationwide.

I've printed quite a fair number of photos through them and I'm happy with their results...very consistent and high quality.
