Ok guys just preordered the D200 from Santa (better known as Birddog ) I've always used either Lexar 80x or Sandisk Ultras. Can anyone give me advice and info on the Trancend 80x cards. I want to get one but all the literature thus far say if you want to maximise the fast write speeds of the D200 then Sandisk Ultra 111 is needed. Well how do you judge write speed comparisons or to the point is the trancend 80x the same write speed as the Sandisk Ultra 111?

My thoughts exactly, speak to Birddog . Personally I use Sandisk Ultra II for my current range of cameras but if I were to purchase a D200/D2X then I'd probably change my cards but keeping with Sandisk.

Sorry guys just trying to stick to the guidelines and not keep hammering Birddog for private advice rather stick to the forum i.e. you guys so come across with the advice I'm sure if Birddog feels inclined he'll join in

Transcend 80x = Sandisk Ultra III = Lexar 80x.

I have 4Gb & 8Gb CF cards use with my D2x and D2h.

Write speed of D200 is not faster than the D2x, and I'm confidence with Transcend cards same as members on this board in the past 12 months.

 AFAIK, the Ultra has only progressed to II. It's the Extreme line that is gone to revision III.

While there is a compelling reason IMHO to shoot with the Ex+r3m3 III with a D2X*, it remains to be seen whether the D200 has implemented the new CF standard that takes advantage of the potential speed capability of the Ex+tr3m3 III range.

(*compulsion: PIO mode 5, aka. new data timings in CompactFlash v3 specs, introduced in 2005. Currently the ONLY camera on the market that supports it is the D2X - heck, even Canon's 1 series mkII bodies don't even support Lexar's implementation of Write Acceleration technology, and that's been on the market for a couple of years at least)

With a D2H at 8 fps, the Transcend 2Gb version will happily keep up with the write buffer. They are a great card and i would recommend them. However i also like the Sandisk Ultra 2, which i also have but is starting to get a bit old..

Echo from Onyx + Killakoala, the D200 does not have more capability of writing speed to the CF card than the D2 series.
Ultra III is also 80x same as Transcend and Lexar and with this speed the D2 series is happily to accept its performance with fast write speed in 8fps.

I can say I have all 3 The LEXAR 80x WA, SANDISK Ultra III nad the Transcend 80X. I can tell no differnence in read/write speeds but I can tell a big differnce in price

Go with the Transcend, the money you save after a couple Ultra III's you could buy an 8gb Transcend.

I use Transcend 2GB & 4GB (80x) cards and have had no problems, and bought off you know who

Money saved still in my Photograhy bank account for next purchase
