Hi All

Today (Sat) I packed my D70, 70-200 VR, 20GB Compact Drive Storage Unit into the micro trekker 200, and went to eastern creek for the V8 supercars.

In total, I captured approx 1000 images. The battery on my Compact drive was exhausted before the end of the day. The D70 battery indicator did not move.

By the end of the day, my left arm was hurting from holding the 70-200, my shoulders were hurting from holding the camera bag.

I also took some portrait shots of the drivers and models, and I must say that this lens is perfect for portraits.

they're nice pics with panning, glad to hear that you had a full test drive it at Eastern Creek.
Oh yeah! it'll make your hand hurst at the end of the day with handholding and panning, that why the tripod and good ballhead for at some fixed location as Eastern Creek, GP.
I used to handholding that baby 3 consecutive days at some Airshows (Warbird Airshow at Wanaka, New Zealand)

Great stuff, especially the Group J (is it still Group J?) stuff.

I was actually thinking of wandering out there myself, but myboard member contacts in CAMS weren't able to get me a pass. I may have to wander out to Albert Park earlier on practice day to check settings etc at next year's GP.

And what you're saying about the weight of it all, yes, absolutely.

Those shots are nice and sharp, good catch of sports shots...

Wonder how the weight of the 70-200 compares with the 80-400, because I noticed it after carrying it around for a few hours at the Zoo the other day, but "no pain no gain"...

Bit of a car nut myself so I enjoyed the pics, thanks for sharing...

Hey louie, Mate you makin me wish i was there with you.LOl I love my motorsport, and yes i charged my batery up thursday when i got the camera and yeh been taking lots of pics and still learning how to use it and still hasn't need charging, but i did last night incase i go for a drive today.

Great shots Louie, good effort to hold that lens all day and noticed you even included an Alfa for our illustrious leader

That is one hell of a sharp lens. Would love to get my hands on it.

Love the shot with the flames, they'd have to be my favourtie shots of car racing.

One thing I'd suggest is lowering the shutter speed when panning, to get that blurred background and the look of movement. Takes alot of practice but when you actually pull it off they look great.

Hi

I have quite a few shots of attempted panning, but they did not seem to come out right. I need to experiment calculating the right shutter speed to use, as well as adjusting to the weight of the lense.

Next time, I will take my monopod.
