What is the purpose of online Track and Trace

To me it seems to be just to taunt you!
In the olden days (before the Internet ) when a package was coming you used to sit and imagine where it would be - on a plane perhaps, maybe on the delivery truck today. You used to think it was close, and making its way ever closer to you.
Now track and trace gives you the cold reality - no its still sitting in a depot on the other side of the country, where it has been for the last 12 hours
The ability to know where it really is spoils all the fun
