In the Beginning...

Hello everyone!
This is my first post of many(hopefully!), and I figured I would use it to introduce myself. My name is Nathan, and I have just purchased a new Nikon D50 through my friend Craig (Alpha_7), who got Birddog to put together a bunch of equipment together. So first of all, my thanks to Birddog for making it possible for me to afford to get my camera!
Other than that, I plan on being around these forums pretty regularly and hopefully getting to know everyone. I would like to make it to some mini meets as well, but I am slightly hampered by the fact I have 4 kids that are 3 years or younger. So I tend to be fairly busy when I am not working.
Regardless, I do plan on being around here a bunch, and to start things off, I will put an image or two up in the critiques section to see how my first day of playing with the camera went.

Welcome to the forum graphite. I have no doubt you will enjoy it here and as you have been recommended by Craig I have no doubt you're gonna be a good egg mate.

Welcome Nathan, you'll have a bunch of fun around here, and you might even learn some things along the way!

Thanks for the welcome, I feel somewhat intimidated, but I figure that will ease with time, and practice. I think once I get a bit more used to everything I will probably be a regular around here. (Not quite so much as Craig, considering how quick he got to 1000 posts)

Welcome to the forum graphite. Guess we're gonna see a lotta kid pics? They make the best subjects. Look forward to seeing some images posted.

I will try and keep the kid pics to a minimum, maily because I know that even if I think they are good, they are just some pictures of someones kid to most people. If I take one that I actually look at and say, I really like the way that was taken then I will post it. Actually I have already done that in the review/critique section, some pictures taken on my first day, and one of them is my daughter.

Hi Nathan, I'd like to formally welcome you into the fold. We've had a lot of fun playing around with my D70 is preparation for you getting your own DSLR and now we finally have one each (bring on the lighting will have half the sky covered). I know as you've mentioned you don't have a lot of spare time on your hands, but don't let that hamper you, just post when you can and definitely ask questions when ever they come up (I'm still learning new things nearly every day). Hopefully will get you to a mini meet in Feb and then you can fully understand the lens lust I've been speaking of.
P.S. When you get a chance update your profile to show where you live and your camera body, this helps all the member know where you, so they can offer help if close by.
(Also I look forward to the kids photos, I've managed to refrain from posting any (bar 2) since I joined)

I've updated my essential info on my profile with location and camera type. I should also upload an avatar at some point in time.
And considering all the digital photo playing I will get to do now, I guess it is time to plug back in my Wacom tablet. I've been looking for an excuse to do that for over a year.

Hey Nathan - welcome aboard. Post often, let us see your work and don't hesitate to ask questions. Just on that point, though, I'd suggest you make use of the search features when you can as you can save yourself a lot of time and effort by finding answers already posted, especially in regard to lens comparisons and the time-honoured Nikkor vs Sigma debate!!

Actually, Andrew did post a good photo once...
Seriously, welcome along to the forum, it's lots of fun and keeps you sane I feel (even though populated by many insane people
). Get cracking on that D50 and post some shots of those kids!
