PD70X copying to computer

Got a PD70X a while ago.

Haven't used it much, but it seems to require connection to mains power before it's willing to show up on the computer.

Doesn't seem right to me.

Maybe the batteries are low? But last time it happened I left it plugged in for a fair while so it could charge.

Is this normal? Will have to try a real charge I suppose (proper charger).

G'day,

Been using the old version (the PD7X) and if the batteries were low then the disk drive would have trouble and the battery meter should show the battery as low...???

Have used mine both remotely and while connected and transferring data to the PC on batteries with no worries...

Hi Nick,

just plugged my PD70X to my notebook, works just fine from the batteries. The batteries were charged up a couple of weeks ago by the PD70X.

Mind you, I'm using Linux   YMMV on other OS's

Cheers,

Andre

Nick I have the older version and find the inbuilt charger hopeless. Mine works off battery power but I always use mains figuring it will be faster.

Must admit, I usually just use mains as well as the batteries don't seem to last very long in the old version, get quite a few Gb copied etc but usually just use the mains.

Yeah, found out that leaving it plugged in to long was the problem.

Had a fully charged set of batteries in it, and were flat in the morning when I remembered I left it plugged in. Computer wasn't on all night though.

So copying to computer just uses lots of battery, especially if left plugged in for long (not really a problem if you were doing it in the field).
