Thanks for the link Birdy - looks interesting! Wonder what sort of price range it will be at?

MSRP of approximately $900 Canadian ... I guess that means we will be looking at a little more then that in equiv AUD.

I'm def waiting to see how well this lens does, if its in the same ball park as the 18-70, then I might just have to get one

If this lens is roughly the same quality as the kit lens I'd get one in a flash.

Hmmm I've been waiting for a lense like this, I don't like carrying too much around. I'm deciding on whether to get this or the Sigma 70-200 2.8, this looks a little soft at 200mm (the flower), or is it just very shallow DOF?

MTF charts of this lens indicate either Nikon is going further the way of Canon by publishing bullshit MTF charts, or this lens will have superb contrast and sharpness at the wide end - much better than the 18-70DX kit lens. At the long end, sharpness looks to be excellent in the centre, but trailing off towards the edge, the sagital and meridonial deviations suggest bokeh will be nothing much to speak of.

That's my based purely on theory Ken Rockwell dissertation review of this lens that I have not physically touched... Feel free to come to your own conclusions:

Has anyone had a play with one of the the 18-200VR yet? I'd be interested in their opinions.
