Hi All, well the weather has been hottish here today and looks like it is going pi## down but yeh hope it does and get it over and done with as tomorrow evening i start my new challenge.
I have scored a gig doing speedway for the season starting with world series sprint cars tomorrow nite. I love the speedway but very expencive to attend most times and now bikes are slowing down like no moto X i need something else to do so offered to shoot meetings mainly to help promote the sport and locals here as i supply most the motorsport shots to local paper.
Shots should be ok during the daylight but will test me after dark, but will be selective, will give the SB800 a run anyhow. Lets hope it doesn't rain too much, will keep the dust down.
So hope to post some shots in the next couple of days, as i have 3 days of motorbikes as well over the newyear weekend.

Thanks Steve and Geoff, i am sure i will do ok as long as weather doesn't spoil things too much, but yeh will be good i think and been charging up all the gear today so all fresh and ready to go will rotate cameras with 300f2.8 on the D2x and sigma 70-200 on the d70 when the action starts and kit lens for in pit shots. Cant wait so should be fun, hope to get some nice sprintcar action shots as Americans are here as well so should get some good shots, fingers x.

John, you're cornering the motorsports market already!
Best of luck with the shooting mate, screw the SB800 - put that D2X on ISOHI-1 and fire away!

No Peter, it is not a paid gig, but like everything else have to start somewhere so i was asked about and was wanting to do it for something different and well it too is another motorsport here where no one has or not many bothered to capture. I really like the idea of getting the locals as they really are the main customer so they are supplying the insurnace etc... and i will keep the pics for any sale i make and as well maybe supply the local paper. I am already known for my bike shots around here so breaking out into a dif area. But who knows if i get some good action could be a few places interested and doing my homework now on site etc.. just incase.
All fun anyhow.

Even unpaid I agree this is a good move. Having a "name" is the first step to being recognised as someone to pay for the quality of their work (something you have in spades)

John,
Let me join the chorus of congratulations — this marks a great step forward because as we all know
'from little acorns big oaks grow.'
Just a word or two of advice regarding the honorary nature of the relationship you have:
Even if you are not paid you still need to document each and every transaction - not so much as an invoice but as a LICENCE AGREEMENT. It is imperative that you retain all rights in your work so that there is an opportunity to reap a return from your skills and dedication at some time in the future and that retention of your Rights and Copyright, while in part automatic, is best emphasised so that all are aware of it.
Negotiate with these people you are doing the work for to see if there is not some sort of 'contra' that can be arranged whereby they promote you and/or your services or give you advertising space in lieu of payment.
Your passion for the subject always shows in your work and I see recent events as the thin end of the wedge into the door for you. You deserve it!!
Cheers,

Thanks Walter, and Others but i did explain that i would supply pics like for covers of programs etc.. as long as the club has no financial gain from my pics and i would say they would advertise my website in there program at some stage. They are like they do i think with all members who work there as i have friends that run the canteens etc.. a speedway licence which is the norm as i used to be a mechanic for my mate who raced speedway bikes for many years. So with that will be insurance and i think the club pays 1/2 so about $40 cost to me and i am sure i will get that back.
Ok there might be other photogs around at this meeting because of sprintcars, but my main aim is for the locals and other meetings, i know these are not really covered so i think it will be good.
Weather is a bit windy but no rain as yet so hope it hold out till after the meet, might go get another set of batteries for SB800 just incase. 3 sets should be ok incase.

Thanks mate, i do hope so. I think the ones during daylight will be ok, it will be the nite shots that may vary somewhat as all i have seen on the net are not too bad and well we dont run lights like some of the bigger speedways so will do my best.
Mate skip ya new years eve,
LOL i have 2 days of classic motorcycle racing this weekend, well practice friday so this will keep me busy.
Cheers

Not sure if Walter could shed any light on this but with the fine print that you put with the transaction would you also state that the work is to be used by only the club that you're producing the work for and not to be forwarded on to any 3rd party?
