General improvement in shots since joining...

Well it's coming up to a year of being a member and I was thinking this morning how much this forum has helped me in my photography over the past year.
I remember first posting some shots here, that were taken in Jpeg - someone suggested fill flash to which I thought "fill flash - wtf is fill flash!!!!" Since then I've experimented with styles and gone in directions I wouldn't have tried had it not been for fellow members encouragement and suggestion. I've developed better technique, better composition and am still learning, every time I post an image. Getting fantastic honest critique is great and is another reason for my improvement.

I'm sure people won't mind when I say that I have seem marked improvements in most if not all members work since becoming members. At this rate, given another year or so, most of national geographics photographers will be recruited from this forum.

Anyway, it's aleays a pleasure to be part of this community, many thanks to everyone.

Matt, it would be innappropriate and immodest for you to mention it, but you have also evolved into a self portrait guru. :D

Matt

I couldn't agree more. It's a fantastic environment for enhancing and nurturing our skills here since you can nakedly expose your work without fear of being dumped on. In my case that fact alone means I'm more likely to take risks and share for critique and learn from that. As a personal example my Human Form series and the feedback on that lead directly to the experimentation in this weeks 10.5 fisheye water colour shots. In your case I see a similar linkage in the evolution of your portrait and lighting series.

And of course many of us have found wonderful and interesting people who we can call friend's here.

I totally agree.

I'm not so sure that I've gotten any better in my photography... but I know a lot more of the theory on HOW to be a better photographer :) :) :)

Thanks everyone!!!

Paul

Yup me too Nito! I know my shots are getting better and i have learnt a lot in the last few months and been inspired by so many of the members who are interested in so many different facets. What a great resource we have here, and its FREE! (apart from the lens lust of course)!

Nice sentiments Rokkstar and I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'm still trudging my way up that big learning curve but I think I'm above the treeline now and it's all because of my fellow expeditioners here on the forum.

Thanks all.

I defintely agree, although I've always found my best learning is from getting out there and taking photos. However, this forum provides the ideas required to do that :D

(and makes me have lens lust  )
