Does anyone know of any studios that are reasonable prices to rent on a day basis? Preferably in the Sydney area.

Cheers

Matt, this may sound strange, BUT the Sydney Adventist Hospital has a media centre that has a TV studio that also works well as a photo studio. They have great lights, backdrops and did have an endless blue/green screen last time I was there. You can contact them via..

Yes we have used it a number of time through my work.
Each time the rates have been different. It is a fantastic studio with all the facilities a small TV / Video production could ever need. I think the going rate was $500 for the day. But you could easily talk them down from this, as you will not be using power, TV monitors etc.
Best to give them a call and say what you are planning to do, and see what they come back with. The studios are very under utilised.

Matt, I might be stating the obvious but by having more then one photographer along would help share the costs, sounds like studio time, lights and models could turn out to be an expensive outing.

This will only work if each photographer is allotted a time slot...... and the studio agrees to this and also the models........ you will find that with professional models, each photographer will be charged for their time, or by the hour....

Hey if you are really keen then I am more than happy to use my contacts at the Media centre and see what we can get it for.
The only stipulation would be no nudes :) This is the Adventist Media Centre after all!!!
Back to you Matt it is your idea!

PM if you want me to contact them

i investigated this and all are expensive

so i had a brainstorm just contact a local council or uni and ask if you can hire a hall space or large room thats all you need, this will be quite cheap, and spend the rest of your cash renting portable studio equipment like a backdrop and lights, this is a budget solution

The only problem may be if a hall has windows without curtains or blinds but i am sure this can be rectified by searching for a hall or large room which has blinds or curtains to block out the light.

Not sure what you guys are looking for but

This is for a Studio at http://www.ACP.au.net Australian Center for Photography

I used to be a student here last year and have some contacts if help is required

Below is a direct cut and paste -

Workshop - Studio Hire
The lighting studio is 7.4 x 5.6m and features an entire wall of windows facing north, offering an abundance of natural light. There is also the capability to black the studio out completely.

Artificial lighting includes: 3 tungsten Arrilites, 1 floodlight, a studio flash floorpack with 2 heads and 3 studio flash monoblocs. The use of a Minolta IVF light meter is included.

The studio is also equipped with various tripods, stands, lighting accessories and coloured backdrops. Members must supply their own flash sync cord or can hire the infrared 'slave' unit for $10 per session.
