SCG, URGENT QUESTIONAhoy folks,
Going to the one dayer tomorrow at the SCG. I want to take the 70-200VR as I'm really near the fence, but I'm worried about not getting it in past the security guys. Does anyone know of any restrictions on focal length at the SCG? I thought I read something about this here once before, but can't find anything via searches. Cheers!!! 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Raskill, everything I saw was F1 or music related. Look on thier website. Why not carry the camera in with a small lens on it and have the 70-200 in a small bag? Would make it look smaller.
You could ring them before you go. Try this number.

from the website:
no mention about photographic gear etc etc.. should be right. cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
The SCG and MCG are pretty good - never had any problems taking my 70-300 in. They don't allow video cameras, which is fair enough.

Thanks folks, I had a look at the website, but clearly not a good enough look. Got sort of distracted by the price of a gold membership to the SCG.
I'm taking the camera with the 50mm on it, VR will be packed away in soft case in backpack. Looks not to bad. Hoping for a good day, if I get anything worthwhile it'll be posted for criticism by Monday night Heres to a good day drinking light beer!!! 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Raskill,
I've been to the SCG with my 70-200VR and had no problems with entry. Even today at the twenty/20 final with NSW v VIC at North Sydney Oval there was no problem. Even with a 1.7TC I'm sure you'll be fine (or fined ) ps Full strength beer at North Sydney! Nikon F80D, FM2n

You need to find a BIG condom too.
MCGI have taken a 50-500mm Sigma which extends to over a third of a metre long to the MCG and have not been stopped. I have been asked if it is video, but I have bnever been stopped there.
I was on the fence for a footy game and a grounds guy came and said, for my information, that I cannot legally bring lenses that size in and the limit is 200mm. I said that many people with their compact digitals go way over that. Anyhow, he said, 'just for your info...I am just letting you know'. He was nice about it. However at the tennis this week, I was waiting for my wife and I had a 400mm lens in my bag. I saw some people who obviously came from overseas, and some locals, lined up at the cloak shed handing in some amazing gear. One guy from Canada handed in a 300mm VR lens. I felt for him and was thinking they were going to send me to the cloak room. Fortunately, we had a pass to the superbox. As we were approaching the gate, one official saw our blue envelope and said, 'Superboxes this way'. NO BAG CHECK AT ALL. Straight through. It was great! I got some great shots of Serena Williams. I agree with a previous post...put a smaller lens on and put the 200 in another bag with the drinks and chips. Once you are in, no one really cares. I think it's a bad thing that we cannot take our cameras in. that means Getty's get it all and we enthusiasts get nothing. We should protest!
Re: MCG
The 200mm limit also applies for the Melbourne F1GP, which is one reason that we're heading (all things being otherwise ok) to Malaysia this year. Welcome to the forums, btw, but please put a meaningful location into your profile: "Australia" simply doesn't cut it, and in fact it breaks our rules; please review the FAQ so that you can acquaint yourself more fully with how things happen here. g.

Re: MCG
Just FYI it's 300 mm now, see section 5(p) of the Conditions of Entry. Sepang should be great, looking forward to your pics already! Edit: goddamn it PHPBB sucks formatting URLs that are slightly less than kosher, you have to encode everything! On the other hand, I now know a bit about URL encoding hah.
