Just a matter of interest, what were you in when you took this shot ?

A car with a lot of rubber on it I hope ?

No mate, never under a tree. Had em close but no probs yet.
It had just deluged torrential rain and was still raining lightly when I snapped this one. I had the car parked across the flow of rain with the tripod and cam sitting on the front seat of the car looking out the passenger window which was wound down. If the tree was not in the way you could have seen the strike hit the ground. There was an awesome crack immediately afterwards. Was quite close.

Rub it in Hill's we have had nothing up here
Few small cells getting about ATM but I dont think anything will come from them

This is a once in a 50 year event probably. A retrograde low dragging moisture across from the pacific. Bloody fantastic stuff. The malle is so wet and so warm that storms are building daily just from remnat moisture from the previous days storms. Been a week and a half. Gotta make the most of it mate
Settings were f6.3, bulb, iso200 WB-daylight using the kit lens.
Its a damn easy cam to use for this sort of thing. The easiest I have used actually.

Tim,

When you go to BULB Setting how do you keep it open without keeping your finger on the button ?

Probably is a silly Question, but I would like to know ?

And how long are your exposures generally ?

Hi Mic,
I use a cheapo universal remote I bought from Dick Smiths (their small one) for 15 dollars or the like. Its programmed to one of the sanyo TV codes. Voila a cheap remote, and not so small it gets lost.
Its invaluable, could not do without it.
My exposures can vary from 12 seconds (as is the case of this pic) or multi minutes. I tend to close the shutter after the first decent bolt. Keeps the image natural. Too many strikes while impressive can blow out the shot a bit and make it look kinda unreal. Just MHO on this, others have different thoughts on this.
