OT RANT: I hate cars...

[RANT]
Totally off topic but I need to rant...

My girlfriend and I's car died yesterday. It was an old mazda 626 and is now not worth repairing...

Now looking at second hand Accent's and possibly have one lined up. HOPEFULLY we will have it by next week.

So why am I ranting?.... All the money that I had saved up for my D2X + 12-24 + other stuff is now gone.

I go on holidays next week (was planning a photographic/driving trip around various parts of VIC) and if we don't have a car then we will be sat at home for three weeks twiddling my thumbs.

To make it worse.... the car that we COULD have borrowed off her parents also bit the dust yesterday (...but is less serious and fixable at least). So even getting to places to try and check out new (used) cars is proving to be very hard.... especially when all the good ones seem to be ages away.

ARGH....

[/RANT]

Sorry about that.... I'm just annoyed at the world right now

Paul

Paul,

check around and get a few quotes on the repair of your old car.

mechanics really are notorious at prices, especially in the Peninsular ( I used to live there years ago).

Before retiring the Mazda I'd making sure I really need to retire it

ps contacting the local wreckers may be a solution for you. they will repair the car and have lots of parts on hand and you'd be surprised as to how cost effective it can be. I hope this helps you....

The mazda definately needs retiring :). It was going great until about a month ago when bad things started happening all at once.

We will look into repairing it anyway as we have a friend who is a mechanic and won't rip us off. However even after fixing it we're pretty sure it will only be a 'quick trip' car.

Isn't it funny - the time you're shopping around for a car is the time you need one the most.

You're cursing your old Mazda now, just wait until a few months into ownership of that Hyundai... you won't know what hating a car means until you've driven a Hyundai. ;)

Don't say that!!

What's wrong with Hyundai's? Everyone I've spoken to has said they are reliable, efficent little cars that shouldn't give us (m)any hassles!!

If they are lying I WILL go after them :)

It's amazing, people have cars that seme relatively new, yet my old mans car a 1978 GMH HZ Kingswood is still going strong. It's had a reco engine and transmission, and at the moment I'm cutting out rust and bogging it and repainting a door but it still goes!

Paul, I agree with Onyx. Many people don't like to admit they made a mistake. My brother was in the car rental business afew years ago in aus, he often had trouble getting 12 moths out of a Hyundai or Daewoo. Obviously they had a harder life than a private user, but 12 months from new without a major problem sounds not that hard on a fleet basis.

Normally I do... but tonight I was on the phone and missed it. What did they say?

Hmmm... now you've got me thinking all over again.

Paul

P.S. G'day kipper. Was just talking about you in another post :)

Well, you already know it about cameras and lenses, so here's the scoop about cars - generally, you get what you pay for! Obviously, this advice is not to be taken literally for any specific second-hand examples (cars or cameras!) but I guess you get what I mean. Hyundais have been around in Aus a lot longer than you might think - it's just that you don't see (m)any old ones  but you can see a 20 year old Corolla on the road just about every day

Cheers

Paul, I don't drive a Hyundai now, but in the past I have driven 2. The first was a company car, serviced regularly, never had any problems at all. The second I bought new, had it for 6 years before I traded it in. Again no problems at all. May be I was lucky, but if you look after them I think they're ok.

Top Gear rated the Hyundai Accent as the worst car for 2004. (We are obvioulsy getting the show a year late). The Smart 2 door car was rated as a comedy car - the worst handling.

My next door neighbour had a 300d mercedes from new until 2003 - when some idiot filled it with petrol and stuffed it.

She traded the Benz in on a brand new Hyandai Accent - She had this Hyundai for a grand total of three weeks and then traded it in on a used Mazda Protege.
Hyundai = High and Dry :D

Top Gear is a great show. Dunno why we have the 2004 series on SBS. At least its on a good time slot now, ten didnt really care so much about the show.

I was cracking up over their porsche challenge. :D :D :D

Anyway, get any car from the land of the rising sun. Always reliable. :D

Bit of controversy for you.

Subaru Outback 3.0 Premium R
Guess which is the far better car! 8)

That Porsche challange you mentioned - would be the one where they bought 3 cars and they had to pay under 1,500.00 quid for each.
Those same Porsches would have been 15,000 dollars out here.
I couldn't stop laughing. :P
