MHD (Scott) was good enough last week to point out that two people (outside the forum) are hotlinking and ripping off my entries in the challenges. Recognition is nice from any quarter
I find it quite amusing, notwithstanding the debiltating effect it is having on my income.

I know exactly how you feel. Ripped off!
I feel the same way. But it is not to do with pictures.
There is nothing nicer than turning up at someone house to see their kids watching a video or DVD of a show that I worked on, only to discover that it is a copy!
I am glad that they love the show, but how on earth are we supposed to keep on making things if people keep on pinching and ripping us off!
Edit: Just had a thought. Why don't you get MHD to replace you pictures with an image that says something "I ripped this picture off!"

Have you contacted the perps of this as yet?
Would you like me to send a site admin's note to their hosting providers?

Yes, I regularly check the logs for the challenge site as well as my own hosting site...
I have already successfully (as it the problem is resolved) contacted two thieves of my images...
Mind you we are only getting the idiots... anyone with half a brain would take them off the server..
So far it is just mine and Glen's images affected
Actually the problems started when google images indexed my suite of sites...

If the stolen shots were of Glen’s guns then it is quite possible that they have been stolen by ASIO

Hadn't thought about this before, but maybe it might be prudent to remove the larger sized images from the galleries after voting has finished???

what exactly happened here glen
did someone use your hi res image for commercial use without your consent, they gained access to it from scotts server?
that sux
copyright is an issue if they make money out of it, if you have intellectual property on those of legal advicee images you could sue them

In Glen's case it was used on forums...
A bunch of silly kids really... I have found no *real* problems...
I just get pissed off as it is so easy to ask permission and 90% of us would have no problems with our images being used in a not-for-profit situation...

You can stop Google indexing all, or parts of your site.
Look up robots.txt (

Rather ironic what he had to say before posting the stolen "gun" picture
"Actually individualist theories have a good solution for folks who try to rob you:"

I've actually had about 4 forums using my images like this but never purseued it. I got kind of pissed at it but then never contacted them to tell them to take it off. It was all foreign forums.
I should go back and check really.

hey fellas, havent read the thread so this may have been mentioned ... but you can use .htaccess to specify allowed referrers ... otehrwise it produces a "hotlink denied" message (you can get really nasty with what image it gives if you want
)
is mine.
these forums and a few others are allowed hotlink.

Dreamhost allows you to do this with a click of a button in their "goodies" section

That's a rather polite hotlinking denied image Darb. Personally, I'd have used Tubgirl or Goatse (if you don't know what I'm on about, it's better that way... if you want to search those two terms, in all seriousness be prepared for ex+reme shock).

I've just spent the best part of an hour going through my logs trying to find where my traffic is coming from and I've come up against a dilema.
I've found a 13 year old girl from the Netherlands who has set up her own site to do with animals and she has put some of my shots on there. It's so sweet, she has tigers, and zebras, and kangaroos and what not. I was going to mail them until I saw how old she was.
What to do? Set the net po-leese on her thieving ass, or just let it be?

im well aware of both of those !
unfortunately sometimes errors occur and legitimate forum operations result in a hotlin messages so it needs to be a little bit tame ... such as when someones browser badly refers something
