Ahoy folks,
I have just been asked to provide a customer with an image that will print out clearly at 100x75 cm. I have enlarged the RAW image to this size and it shows pixelization etc.
What is the largest clear print size with a D70 image? I have printed 80x50 (ish) cm sized images no problems before.
(I tried a search, but to no avail)
Cheers!

I somehow doubt you will get a digital image to that size.
100x75cm at 200dpi is something like 48 mega pixel.
But then it all depends on viewing distance.
I think those huge bill board posters are only 150dpi.
They look bad close up, but ok at the normal viewing distance.

I print images 60 x 90cm without any worries........ sometimes these have been cropped to about 2/3 of the original.......

The essential issue is what will the average viewing distance be? Providing folk are not rubbing their noses on the print and stand back a reasonable way it should be fine. Try this experiment....enlarge part of the image to the final size on your computer and then step back from your monitor to view it. At what distance does the pixelization no longer seem obvious?

I changed the image size in
PS when I first loaded the image and made the RAW adjustments (6144 x 4085 pixels, reduced the pixel/cm to 200) and have changed the image size to 100cm wide and it appears to come okay.
It's for a national add campaign for the Easter Speed Festival, so the Council and PR company want something pretty special.
Still havent figured out what to charge them yet

If you're worried about pixelation, try one of the various image interpolation pieces of software that exist.

Definately use interpolation software.
From what I've read, you can get results near by increasing size 10% multiple times.

Charge them a motza. Think of a reasonable fee and double it. You are worth it.
