Photography Along The Great Ocean Road

Hi there,

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip along the great ocean road next week. Will probably take 4-5 days. Our primary goal is to have a 'photographic' holiday... not really interested in doing things like museams and tours and the like (unless they hold good photo op's of course)

Since I haven't been out there since I was 5 years old I really have no idea what to expect.

Can anyone suggest places to stop and take photos on the way there/way back? Very interested in anything relating to nature and landscape photo oppurtunities

So far:

12 appostles
Stevensons falls
Beauchamp falls

are on our list.
Have also heard that Lorne is a great place to take photos.

Can anyone suggest any other towns and places we should stop? I would love some good waterfall shots on this trip. As well as birds and wildlife. Sunrise/Sunset shots would also be good.

4-5 days won't be nearly enough for all that I know (.....why can't the light be great ALL day???) but the more suggestions we have then the more things we can choose from

The bay of islands is much better than the 12 appostles IMO and its just down the road a little bit from them.

Port Campbell is also a great little town.

G'day,

Go down Gibson's steps and turn right down at the beach and you can get to the base of a couple of the Apostles that aren't in the main group... You could get some fantastic sunrise/sunset shots from down there...

Lake Elizabeth is a great spot and it's on the way to another falls (which I think is McKenzie falls?)...

Also Hopetoun and Triplet falls are very nice too, certainly worth a look...

I bought a book at the Information Victoria centre in Collins St a while back called "Wildlife Watching in Victoria". It is a little old but the places it mentions are still good. Worth getting as it didn't cost that much (can't remember specific price).

Anyway a visit to the Otway Ranges and Melba Gully would be good. Also Anglesea Heath and there might also be wetlands with boardwalks there. I believe around Wye River there is a decent Koala population if you're interested in that.

Make sure you tuck into a gummy burger in Apollo Bay, Very tasty! Check out some of the creeks/rivers and waterfalls between Lorne and Apollo bay - they are tranquil. Early morning best time of day.

It's given me some visual's of what I can expect from the different places.

I just hope the weather gets a little nicer before next week. (It'd be just my luck to be on holidays for the three weeks of the summer that are overcast and crappy!!)

Loch Ard Gorge (spelling) has some great areas for photography.

Its may favourite location on the Great Ocean Rd.
