Ahoy folks,

Just looking at my lens collections and thinking of getting rid of my Sigma 20mm and Nikkor 85mm and replacing them with two zooms instead.

I'm looking at the Tokina 12-24mm f4 as one of the replacement lenses. Does anyone know anything either about that lens, or Tokina lenses as a whole.

I'm also interested in the Tokina 300mm f2.8 for down the track (providing I get a photog job I'm after )

I'm a little wary of third party lenses following my soft Sigma 70-200mm f2.8, so any advice would be greatfully received. I've 'googled' it and it seems to get okay write up's, but curious what you good folk think also!

Hi Raskill. One of the guys I work with brought a Tokina 12-24 from Birddog recently. It's as sharp as a tack and I know he is very pleased with it. There have been quite a few reviews and comparisons between Tokina 12-24, Nikkor 12-24 and Sigma 10-20 and 12-24. I believe the Tokina was rated very well in the comparisons. I'm sure there are threads about it here if you do a search. For what it's worth, the Tokina is the WA zoom I will be getting when I've saved the money.

Let me know when you decide to get rid of the Nikkor 85mm.

I have three Tokina lenses and i don't like any of them. In fairness though, they are quite old. 2 of them are F2.8 'pro' lenses so should be better than they are, but they are not. Chromatic aberration and lack of sharpness is a major problem wide open.

HOWEVER, as said above, the 12-24 has good reviews regarding it's sharpness and some members here have it and are very happy with it. So i guess their newer lenses are much better.
