Guys, im probably going to by this printer - but before i do, can people who do own this printer tell me if there is anything i should be cautious about - or reasons why i shouldnt buy it?

I'm also looking at purchasing the printer after X-mas.. along with a new lens.. battery.. CF card..monopod.....

Any 1st hand information would be great...

JordanP (craig) doesn't have his printer yet, i'm 'minding' it for him until a friend of his drives up to Lismore to personally deliver it. It's awesome...hahaha..just kidding, it's still in the box brand new .

Mine arrived last week. Thanks Birddog.

After some stuffing around I got the thing sorted. The prints are great. WinXP with SP2 produces dark images with driver from the CD. Throw the CD away and download the current driver from Epson Support. icc profiles are also needed for printing from Photoshop. I downloaded those from the Epson site along with some third party profiles from elsewhere - I would have to dig for the link. Also download the Epson Printing Guide and follow the instructions for printing from Photoshop, without deviation, for great results.

There is absolutely no reason not to buy it. The R800 is a top shelf A4 printer. that produces great results. The cost of running the R800 suprised me. It is low in comparison to my previous printers. I do not believe that you would ever regret purchasing an R800.

I have had this printer for some months now, and I am really impressed with it. The only shortcoming is that its maximum printing size is A4 - but I guess you can't have everything.

Initially I found it hard to buy inks, but they seem to be in plentiful supply now.

I use Qimage as my printing software - its interface is a bit clunky, but the results are superb. It is particularly good for resizing and also for printing multiple images on one sheet.

Good luck with the R800 - I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Am extremely pleased with this printer.

You do need to be careful with paper settings, as I've found mixed results depending on what paper I am using. I guess that's the same with all high quality printers! You should have no problems at all with Epson's papers, especially the Premium line.

One line of paper I have not had any luck with at all is Kodak, so if anyone else has had success, would be interested to hear about their settings!

Make sure you give the rolled paper a go!

Printer is FAST, QUIET and surprisingly CHEAPISH TO RUN!

Qimage produces the finest output I can get from a printer. It works like bloody magic.

There is a profile available from the Kodak website - need to register - for Kodak Pro (??) paper and the R800. I have not tried it yet, but I probably will sometime to get rid of my supply of Kodak paper.

There is always justification with the missus for such a fine printer, especially when she sees the nice results. Maybe she may even allow you to upgrade to an A3 printer next year.

WOW - thats all i can say.. WOW...

Picked up the printer earlier tonight, and im totally impressed

I actually compared a 6x4 from Camera House Lab print, and a 6x4 R800 print, and the R800 leaves it for dead would you believe.

The missus is also very happy
