Fred Bare Summer job

I don't usually like wanking on about opportunities
but i must say i am so excited that Fred Bare want to use me again to shoot their Summer 2006 campaign

They want surf, sun and fun, thinking of Noosa as the location in early May

this is a great opportunity to do something spectacular as they actually have a good budget
Also a great opportunity to share my conceptual processes and workflow

Now all i have to do is get time off work and work out a campaign concept.

A 'wank' is suggestive of an overinflated opinion of one's self wendell. That is far from the truth given your work with Mr Bear to this point. They are sure as hell not going to give you the assignment if they didn't like your work. I'd say they loved it  Congratulations wendell and well deserved. :) I look forward to seing the results.
cheers
marco

Wendell, good to see your good work with them has paid off. Congratulations

Congrats Wendell,

seeing that you did so well with that first job for them, not surprising they want to get you to do the summer series.

Since you are inclined to love France, how about going to Nouvelle Calédonie instead of Noosa? Just as easy to go there as Noosa and I'm sure the croissants are better in Noumea :D

Well done,

André
(I thought going to the French Riveria was too much of an ask :? - and the beaches here or N-C are way nicer anyway)

thanks everyone

Fred Bare and their official parisian photogrpaher Marco always shoot in europe or some other overseas location, but i think this time round they want to feature australia for the european market because they export to europe and the europeans love australia, the landmarks the culture
in the winter campaign we featured the harbour bridge and SOH, the feedback from Paris was great the buyers there loved the Australian campaign

The last summer Fred Bare campaign was shot by Marco in St Tropez South of France, accordign to Fiona from Fred Bare it was such a hassle, the french being so bureaucratic they needed to organise so many shooting passes and fly all the kids over there.

Australian location and beach culture will be featured with an australian surf theme

Now the funny thing is i will be really pushing the envelope because
1. I will be shooting young kids
2. On a beach

There has been so much controversy about photography on the beach
but i will be breaking all of that, I should have a lot of insight to share.

Noosa is just up the road from us here. It is quite nice but can be very weather dependent.

there is a slight weed problem on the beach at the moment.

What age group are you working with?

PM me if you need someone to reconnoiter locations before the shoot.

Have you thought about Fraser island? there is a lot more diversity over there forests, lakes, beaches, jetty, boats.

I would recommend Kingfisher bay resort . pool and an indoor area to keep shooting if there is rain.

Cheers and congratulations

doug

hi Doug

love your work your beyond a seasoned pro
Still worjkign out location, i think they want a surfy beach, the weather is important because i don't think i can twist a overcast day as a summer theme
no matter how i spin it since we are planing a 2-3 day shoot 1 day can be bad but the other two have to be great
I like the early mornign sun but i think we will mix it up with indoor shots at a surf club there with surf boards or at a beach house location
but exotic locations like fraser island would be awesome i will put it by them

I will be working with 7-9 year olds

7-9 year olds!!!!!!! runs and hides under bed screaming

:D

MMM that could work with a nice holiday home overlooking the beach have a look at Sunshine beach just round the corner A nice place with better views than Noosa then you can just do a quick run to Noosa main beach.

How many kids? with parents? and art directors? you have a couple of mini busses booked?

Make sure you factor weather into your quote or estimate.

I have been skunked a few time ( my run of good luck has been phenomenal though) Just make sure you have it in black and white that if you need extra time you get it and they pay for it, not you.

Sorry to sound negative I just think it is better to prepare for the worst and then enjoy it when thing go well:-)

Again if you want us to scout the area I am sure Tim AKA Zeeke and I can go for a run up there and manage to take a few shots :-) there is some really nice scenery lying round on the beaches up there!!!!!!

cheers doug PS if you want Fraser then you can always say you have consulted a pro who works in that area and he recommended......

It increases your cred that you have been doing location research!!!!

Dug

always into location research we are all the way in sydney with a short shooting window with an entourage of people so planning is everyithing
thankyou for the very kind offer i will take you up on that and if you want to hang around during the shoot that shouldn't be a problem

kids parents art director and photographer is me, and Fiona the head of fred bare just lets me do my thing without much feedback from her, so that bit is easy, it's just the kids i am worried about they are young and it's going to be a couple of long days, kids get really bored so i have to mix things up shoot here then go there move equipment as well.

It's still very initial but Fiona wants dynamism liek waves crashing maybe some surf shots of the kids on boards ridign a wave techanically hard to do since i dont have a watercasing or cant swim, may have to shoot from a boat with a zoom, but everythung is still initial

persoanlly i like the more romantic pics closeup portraitures on the actual beach under the shade or something. Also puting kids on the rocks with crashing waves is a huge liability so i will have to think about balancign creative intent with safety and common sense i am dealing with young kids not adults.

What a great op Wendell!

If you get keen, you could scoot up the beach a bit (need 4WDs though) and take some shots on Teerwah or Rainbow Beach, away from the crowds and even throw in the colour sands for effect 8)
