CF Card CrashI have just returned from the wilds of Tanzania only to find that one of my 2.0Gb CF cards has crashed. It is (was) full of shots and no I don't have a backup.
The files appear to have been renamed DsC"Square Box" xxxx.jpg/NEF . The .jpg files show the correct file sizes but the .NEF's are all indicating 500+ MB filesize. All are unreadable / uncopyable at this stage. Does anyone have know of any data recovery system that might help retrieve these shots or am I best just to cut to the chase and slit my wrists straight away. Steve

I got a trial version of Photo Mechanic whith the CF card I bought Steve. Never had to use it (thankfully), so I can't comment on how useful it'd be in your situation. Guessing you can probably d/l it off the web. I hope you recover all of your images. Andrew
I recovered a bunch of pix from someone with a corrupted card using some free stuff I got off sandisk's site.
I expect plenty of the recovery stuff around will do a similar job though, unless the card is physically damaged. even then some stuff may rise from the dead. Steve check out my image gallery @ http://photography.avkomp.com/gallery3
 Sorry to hear that Steve...
 Try PC Inspector... I haven't used it myself, but I know that it has worked wonders for others... It's also FREE!!! Cheers, John Leek@Flickr | Leek@RedBubble | Leek@DeviantArt D700; D200; Tokina 12-24; Nikkor 50mm f1.4,18-70mm,85mm f1.8, 105mm,80-400VR, SB-800s; G1227LVL; RRS BH-55; Feisol 1401
 You could try these folk
http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/ I haven't had such a disaster with CFs, touch wood but I feel your pain! When I shot film, a Canadian lab managed to scratch two entire roles of film from one end to the other of shots I took on safari in Zimbabwe Cheers Sheila Sheila Smart

Thanks for all of the leads. I ave tried a couple and so far Sandisk's RescuePro is the only one that seems to be recovering pretty much everything so out with the credit card I guess.
 Nasty nasty business this!!!! Steve

 Sandisk Ultra II 2.0 Gb
Sandisk's software recovered most of the files in the end (not the names sadly). I have just managed to crash my 2nd 2Gb card by filling it up. Anyone heard of this problem with D70's?? Steve
