One from the center of the music scene

Postby Michael on Wed Feb 22, 2006 7:51 pm

Sometimes when I go to a gig where I'm doing work It can get really nasty in the middle of the mosh people thrashing thier arms around and legs around too in some cases.

Sometimes when something full on is really happening I'll reach out with my camera stretch out as far as I can and snap away to see what I get. I've been pondering getting a Sigma 10-20 wide angle lens for some of this work, It's definatly make the shots alot more interesting and maybe the nikkor 10.2 fisheye can't really decide.

This image is just a little view into the expressions the people and what happens in the middle of a big local band everyone goes nuts for. I hope you enjoy. The music scene is somewhat of a little civilisation in itself it has its different groups here in toowoomba and down in brisbane and every now and then a big aussie band comes up and sometimes they're making a doco about the band or the music scene in general.

To me an image maybe it isn't 100% great photographically but for the people involved including myself it gives us all a book to look back on. Because all of us are only young once we only really have this chance to be this wild before we're forced to meld back into the rest of society as responsible adults. I hope that in 10 20 years time I can look back at a photo like this and remember just what it was like to be surrounded by friends, music and a great atmosphere.

The kind of feeling that would provoke inside of me is what photography is all about for me in the end.

Michael, that image works so well. The direct eye contact of the girl, with really no hint of her reaction to you, the closeness of the guys hand and the fist of his mate all make it a very intertesting shot. Very impressive.
