I did not put this in Bargins but would rather have a discuusion,

This is what I recieved after trawling through ebay

Dear customer,

The price for the Nikon D2X is $1000 aud with shipping cost included.
i make all the transaction thru ebay checkout program.
I hope you understand if you don`t then let me explain how it works.
First i need your shipping details so i can contact ebay and inform them about our transaction.
Once the transaction is started you will receive from ebay the invoice with the details of the product and payment information.
In 24 hours the payment must be confirmed and after that the product will be released and in maximum 2-3 you will receive the product.

Now he says he has some iimports and is currently in Europe :? However still wants to use ebay and paypal so we can have buy/seller coverage.

Well what to do? Can I afford to lose $1k??

What do you all think

If you want my opinon, i wouldn't trust them. A D2X for 1000??? Not likely!!!!

Only you can decide if you can spare 1000 dollars.

I'd be extremely wary about this.
I doubt if Ebay would act in the manner described.
I think it's possible that you may get a bogus email from someone pretending to be Ebay with details of how to transfer funds.
Once you transfer the funds, you may never see them or the D2X.

Matt, send $500 to me and you keep $500.
That way you will only loose $500 for nothing , not $1000.

Cheers
John

My feelings are the same...

$1000 for a D2X... someone along the line would have to loosing a lot of money on a deal like that..

My guess is that it would be you!!

It's a con.

They have your details on record from a previous transaction through Ebay (not necessarily with them).

Report the email to Ebay and let them deal with it.

I've had these before (not for a D2X), but they're all basically the same.

Don't get sucked in.......

Lessee....
  • Item in U.S.
  • Item only shipped to Australia
  • "Don't use contact seller, use this Gmail account"
  • Camera listed in Girls Uniforms
And that's just for starters!

Run away, run away...

Or set up a PayPal account with a credit card, and know that you can refute the transaction via your bank if it all falls through (no matter what escrow hoops they've tried to invoke).

Matt,

I know as a fact that a D2X costs much, much more than $1000 to buy from Nikon, so this guy is a loser trying to scam any unsuspecting takers.

Wouldn't even waste my time emailing him back, in my opinion.

Cheers

This couldn't be more dodgy! As everyone has advised I too would stay well clear of this one!! The old adage - if it's too good to be true - it probably is.

Yes, that's the best thing to do. On the couple of occasions when I've reported obvious scams to eBay, the listings (and the sellers) have disappeared fairly quickly.

I have bookmarked the seller and buyers for the D2X and D200.
D2X was AU$ 2375, D200 - AU$ 1894.
I will monitor their feedbacks for a while with interest.
Looks like the D2X was won buy a local dealer.

I tried to find these US listings on US ebay earlier. Seems they were only listed here in Aussie. 8 hour sale in Aussie ebay from US dealer who previously has seem to sell childrens clothes and artyfartyfacts.

There should have been a Drudge report siren listed with this items.

Anatomy of an Ebay sale
Yesterday morning 2 items appear in the Australian 35mm digital camera
section - Highlighted Sale
1 day -10 hour auction - D200 and D2x - US Seller. Both bids start at AU$ 100.00 .
This auction was started at night US time.
Generic Graphic of D200 + Packaged image of D2X + Generic descriptions.

Seller provides GMail address complaining Ebay feedback contact is blocked by spam.
Delivery instructions to be confirmed at end of sale.

Auction proceeds during day with all Australian bids (No US Bids). Auctions
finished around 21.35 hours last nite. Items won with bid of AU$2375 for D2x
and AU$ 1894 for D200.

Auction withdrawn this morning by Ebay with warning not to send funds with
third party fund transfer companies.

Seller's history provides information that their past transactions are cheap second hand
childrens clothes or small artifacts. This seller has not had sales listings for a few months.
Checking also found that these cameras could not be found on US Ebay.

Very interesting except for the P.J.Barnum rule - There's one born every minute.

Yes , He was very polite when I told bhime that I no longer wanted 10 D2x's and was chosing Canon because of colour.

He wished me well and I hoped I could get them at a good price.

I was curious , when he insisted I use ebay, but when I said PayPal or COD that when it got dodgy..

Yes I strung him along for some time..

One of the interesting points.

When I saw these auctions yesterday morning, I thought of checking with
ebay regarding the auction and sellers validity.

I went through all of the ebay contact and feedback options.

There are lot of pre- loaded imputs in the ebay contact / security options.

The one that I wanted to put in was - please check this suss auction.
There is no such option.

Hi, and welcome.

Please put a meaningful location in your profile: please refer to the front page for a description of what is "meaningful".

I'm sorry to hear of your loss; that looks like a professional kit: are you a pro? was the kit insured?

I'm wondering why you have posted this, and onto a thread that was over two years' old. I don't understand your post.
