I was thinking about buying a spider 2,
not able to be shipped to Australia from colourvision directly.
Would appear to be much dearer in Australia.

Just wondering whether anyone knows the best place to get one from in australia??

thanks

Steve

I purchased mine from Adorama. No complaints, it got here within a few days of ordering (paid with Visa) and I saved heaps over the RRP here in Aus!

I got mine from Kayell (...didn't know any better at the time!). But they charged my CC twice, reversed it twice and then charged it again and sent me 2 copies of the package. They rang me up and told me to refuse delivery of one. My secretary signs for everything so of course we got two, and then had to send one back. After a few weeks I discovered that I'd been sent the Pro Studio version rather than the basic version. By that time the box was crumpled and much of the fluffy stuff discarded. My conscience is a little troubled by receiving an inadvertant upgrade but I think its too difficult to sort out any further. So whats in the upgrade?..A few things but the only thing I fiddle with is the Nik Efex photoshop filters...some of which are pretty cool.

thanks for that, I hadnt even thought of one of those US guys.

I got it into my head that they came from the vendor direct.
will look at adorama and BH tomorrow.

I looked at kayell and they were dearer than ausmedia.

Hi Steve,

Just out of interest, which one did you end up getting? After looking at adorama myself there are a few to choose from. :?

well I ordered the pro studio one,
mainly because I was about the spend more than that for the spider 2 alone in australia.
I get the pro one for around the same price. Seeing as how postage is the same for both also.
not sure whether I will require all the exra stuff but I have it if required.

Annoys me no end the difference in price we pay for all sorts of stuff in OZ. Is about time the Govt looked at itself and allowed for similar pricing. or if it is the vendors fault let them fix it.
one only has to look at the amount of gear being ordered o/s. If it was similar prices, I am sure that we would order it from locally and the money would go into our economy.

I am not so sure that it is govt. that is responsible for some of the outrageous pricing in this country - indirectly they are responsible for the cost of doing business. I am more inclined to blame the distributor.

Good deal getting the pro version for the cost of the local standard. The difference goes a bit deeper than the extra bundled software. The Pro version offers a lot more capabilities in the clorimeter software. With the previous Colorvision spyders it was a $300 add-on.

Cheers

regardless of who is to blame, they should look at why everybody is looking to purchase off shore.
Mr Maxwell is another who should look also!

woo hoo.
the spyder arrived this morning. around 0900.
well done mr adorama.

I ordered late sunday night and thursday morning on the doorstep.
I doubt whether it would have been much quicker ordering locally.
perhaps yesterday.

now all i have to do is figure out what to do with it. this pc will be a little more amusing because it has two monitors. I think I will do this one last. I will do a few other ones first until I get the hang of it.

Wow, that's great turnaround time, especially from overseas!!

I'll definitely look at them when I get around to buying one of these things (after the budget allows for a 12-24 and a tripod... hah! :) )

and the best reason for getting overseas is that the price is HALF the price in AUST even allowing for postage.

I have been happily calibrating stuff here now.
skintones look much nicer now.

the pro version I ordered lets you calibrate for 2 monitors on one computer but discovered that if you have a dual head video card it would appear that you cant have 2 profiles. Is ok with 2 video cards though.

apparently not an issue on a MAC.

will look into it further later on.

Great - I run a dual-display on my PowerBook at home :)

I have a horrible display at work that I wouldn't mind nuking though - the colours on it are TERRIBLE
