dead pixel / hot pixel

Just notice I have a hot pixel or dead pixel on my D200
right in the middle of the images. It might be more then one....but all together.
On an outdoor colour image it is blue in colour, on another image inside, it is white.
If I send it back to maxwell, how long does it take to fix? Is this under warrenty?

Vince,
No doubt it's under warranty, I'd imagine 3-4 week turnaround from Maxwell.

It depends on, sometimes just 1/2 hour for them to remap and also how good you're when you talk to the girl in the front counter.

Vince,
You'll need to verify how many there are, and where it is: is it just one, for instance, and on the display monitor?
Or is it on your sensor?
If it's just one, then I doubt it'll be covered by warranty, and in most instances, it'll never show up in your finished prints.
Similarly, if it's on the display monitor, it'll have no effect on your work.
Getting back to the warranty, you'll need to check the documantation, but it's often something like three dead pixels anywhere in the device (CCD or display) or two adjacenet to one another.
And it's often the case that these can simply be mapped out.

yeah i have 1 red hot pixel on the top right of my d2x
last time i was at maxwell they said they could remap it but at the time it would take 2 weeks, if their not busy half and hour
up to now i have lived with it 1 dead pixel on a 12Megapixel image
can't afford to leave the camera with maxwell

It is not on the LCD. It is on the image...when I view it at 100% in
PS it looks like there is 3-5 clump together.

Go back to the D70 is more safer than the very first batch of D200.
You're not the only one victim.
The first lot I got 2 units for a Govt. Dept. in Canberra, all were returned:
- banding issues.
- Dead pixels
- Battery was out after 200 shots in one full charge.
- Dead top window LCD display.
Not very happy customer and I'm waiting.

I know how you feel - the first D50 I got had a red line of dead pixels down every image.
Return it - its not acceptable

You can return it for new replacement after certain of limited time which I did for my customers and I won't accept any new replacement with new set of serial number.
But you can return for warranty during its warranty term.

If he knows or identifies you're one of his mates, he will treat you well also.
So be brave and step in with a petal of rose.

NPS Australia is just started and not sure it's up to the right standard as yet.
You have to join, pay the premium and subjected to approval for becoming member of NPS, you also have to prove that you're a Pro-shooters with at least 2 DSLR bodies which you purchased locally and local stocks (Maxwell).
You can only list your Nikon camera bodies + lenses or Nikon equipments which you buy from any stores in Australia with valid proof of Maxwell's stock.
They will loan you the equipments less or equal of your listed equipments while your equipments are in service at Maxwell but not guaranteed and subjects to stock availability.
I heard few not good comments and feed back from local pro shooters about the NPS Australia.

shutterbug, sorry to hear about your dead pixel. As the others have mentioned, it just needs to get remapped, but if you can't have any downtime with your camera, I'd just live with it (and use the healing brush if needed) until you can have time for the camera to be in at Maxwells.

$35.00/ yearly.

Sounds suprisingly cheap, but when you factor in buying two DSLR bodies from Local stock, the cost is considerably more. Interesting idea though, personally this sort of service should be free to people prepared to show the loyality to buying local stock (I think). But it doesn't affect me, so I'll butt out.

Sorry, my typo, it's $85.00/ yearly.
I'm happy to join the NPS as the one in the USofA or Europe but not in Australia, where
no real Nikon presents, Maxwell is just a wholesaler or a sole distributor of Nikon for this region (Australia + NewZealand), they do not have the same policies as Nikon Wordlwide nor they do not treat you or local NPS members as same as Nikon USA or Nikon Europe and no one is going to give you firmly supports of the products which you have in your hands. They may stop their relationship with Nikon one day and all NPS will be gone with the wind.
Look at the brochure of local NPS enrolment form, I don't see much benefits there which we need them.
