has anyone else had problems doing sensor cleans in wet / damp weather?

I just attempted to clean Tim aka Zeekes sensor and it was the most mongrel job I have ever done ;-( it started out bad and got worse the more I cleaned it.

We finally called it quits with 2 small spots left on the screen.

I have never had those kind of problems before was it a wet day thing or was it just Tim super gluing gunk on his sensor?

Superglue fixs EVERYTHING!!!

Thanks again Doug for cleaning my sensor.. its gotta be better with just 2 dots instead of a ranch on the range full of dust bunnys

My very first sensor clean was like that, it was done for me by Mattk at a minimeet curtesy of Birddog supplying the materials. I felt embarassed at the amount of Pec-Pads we used. It's been much better since then.
Probably harder to clean the first time due to the lenght of time the dirt has been on the sensor, most of us try to delay it as long as possible because we're a bit scared to fiddle with the sensor. It gets easier with time.

We don't do wet clean anymore! steambath is more quicker and cleaner

Great ideas, 120 minutes cycle and it comes out whitest clean.

Nah ! Only just got past 2000 actuations, maybe at around 3000.

i dont know much about dust bunnies and cleaning them, would humidity have anything to do with the cleaning problem.

My cam is at 11 000 actuations without a wet clean, and it's been to motorcross heaps of times, sports carnivals the beach you name it its been there.

and not 1 wet clean has been needed I think its luck and my care during the events becuase I change lenses all the time.

I culled a few bunnies today as well and have never used as many Pecpads before - over 20 before I was happy - normally 1 or 2. I thought that it was elephant dung, maybe it was just the wet weather.

Sorry Steve but that makes me really happy, I thought it was just me

i'll be cleaning in dry weather from now on if I have a choice.

No prob tim It just annoyed me

At present we are Knee deep in water on the Sunshine Coast so I may just have to delay my clean as well. I am one of those who have procrastinated (and also delayed) doing the first clean. Have all the gear but, is it gumption that I need? I may just call on you Dug

i took about 2000 pics on a 4WD holiday last year and had to clone out the dust spots on about 1500 of them

so far i just [very carefully] use a can of compressed air by holding the can still and moving the camera around the air stream.

I only used a couple of pads the first time I cleaned mine, yet used bloody HEAPS on the second go, doh!... Although I just use the rocket these days and haven't done a wet clean for months, I don't hesitate to change lenses in the field if I need to but try to do it reasonably carefully, not facing the wind, generally away from dusty tracks etc. and so far pretty good...

for rampant dust bunnies in the wet...

we just used to use a good dose of MIXO to kill the buggers off....

not sure if you can still get it...check your local Dalgetys or Elders GM

I'm actually having my first 'delousing of dust bunnies' this thursday at the adelaide mini meet

.....if I pay fozzie the Adelaide going rate of $75 and he promises not to use either your .375 or hikingdude's mates sledgehammer in the process

actually I'm hoping to negotiate on the fee with fozzie - I was quoted $80 and 2 weeks to get it cleansed professionally before getting advice from the good SA people on this forum.

We were never quite sure if we hit the bunnies with the .375

they disappeared

$75 that kind of money is way too much to be paying for bunny busting.

learn how to do it yourself!!!

actually fozzie has said he will show me the diy method of cleaning the sensor safely if conditions are suitable - thanks Fozzie

I'll pick up the tab for any of his gear used and then invest in my own cleaning set when confident enough to do it correctly

I hope to pick up that important maintenance skill along with lots of other stuff on thurs. ..

feel like a kid going to school for the first time..just that whats in the school bag is a bit costlier than a few notebooks and HBs.
