Hey guys,
Latest UPS status on an order being shipped from B&H is "Exception." Of course the order was shipped in two parcels and they arrived at different times so have different statuses. What happens next? Will Customs call me or will it sit there for a week? I really want this before christmas...

I would get on the phone first thing in the morning to the UPS people or even customs and ask - it never hurts to ask.
And, good luck

That was my next question. Who do I call? Customs seems to be the logical answer, but I bet they don't know what I'm on about! I suppose UPS would be able to use the tracking numbers, so I might give that a shot.

UPS would be the first logical step and if that draws a blank customs themselves. All I know is that if I was in your situation I would try my best whatever way I could.
Good luck

Thanks Chris.
Bad case of lens lust here. Next step is a larger left arm to hold the thing up! Specs: 95mm diameter, 218.5mm length, 1840g.
Still, could be worse - the 300-800 is 165 x 544 and 5.9kg.
If you didn't start with arms like a gorilla you'd have 'em soon!

UPS. You have a tracking number; they should be able to tell you all that's needed, and will probably be happy to take your CC details for the GST amount due.

Sweet, thanks Gary!
Suddenly I'm more optimistic about getting the new toy for the christmas trip!

You better call UPS on their Toll free number, quoted your tracking number and talk to their Account Receivable.
They will tell you how much the GST is payable, by COD or other method, once you've done it, UPS will released the package for delivery.

Seems to be sorted. Spoke to someone at UPS this morning who thought there was no duty payable (yay!) but on checking found there was (boo!). Paid the $200 and should have the filter today and lens tomorrow.

werble,
I deal with UPS on many occasions, the way they treated their customer same as the bump on the street, especially once the shipment was shipped by method of expedite. Never want to go with them once again, if shipped from the US, I always go with USPS/ Global Air Priority (EMS).
Hope you'll get it before Xmas and enjoy!
