Santa's missing this guys chimney.Hello all,
And a merry & safe Chrissy to all men & women & their D70's. Just surfing before ( in no mans land ) and came across this little ditty. An excited Newbie Wedding Photograpgher just putting in a post of a wedding shoot he had just done, started out alright with a few good responses and then Grinch got onto him. Now I know what he is saying "The Grinch" and it isn't the most artistic shot. But my point is this, the feeling you get on this thread compared to ours, Boy oh boy We are civil little elves her in the great land of OZ. Nothing wrong with a bit of usefull criticism, but this poor bloke probably won't post again. ( unless he has a hide the thinkness of a rhino ) Check it out : Ho, Ho, Ho ! Hum. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read. ... e=11510802 We need a Christmas Emoticon.
Yeah he was right in some ways; the post could have been worded better as to give the poor bloke a brake & something to work with.
That’s one of the good things about this forum an opinion is given but also backed up with how to fix it, keeping the image maker interested in learning the right way to achieve the over all out come he/she was after in the first place. Love this place!!!!! Cheers Ray >> All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism<<
Sometimes I miss that place... the last time I went browsing there, there were 4 separate threads asking about colourspace and the D70, and at least half a dozen threads all asking how to remove the SB800 door cover, in much the same words.
Then there are the: "should I buy the D70 or the 300D" questions, extended to D70 vs 20D, 20D vs D2H, etc. And anything to do with politics is a redzone... Americans are so passionate about politics (yes, I know it's a UK site)! I never knew 'liberal' could be construed as an insult until I came to understand the American use of the word...
Yep, that is the sort of stuff that has made me walk away from that forum permanently. I even went so far as to delete all shortcuts and bookmarks so that I have to type in the URL - I do not think I will be doing that. There are many aggressive and abusive members there. There are also the thin skinned types who become aggressive and abusive at criticsm or what they perceive to be criticsm. Sometimes I felt like I was treading egg shells. I have had a few agressive emails in relation to my posts there.
This forum, on the other hand is a very friendly place to be. People are polite and helpful. There is plenty of of friendly banter to offset the more serious business of photography. Threads often seem to go way off topic - usually after the original question has been answered - and then find there way back again. The humour is fun- coming from someone who has little outward sense of humour. I like hanging out in this forum. Congratulations guys. Keep it up. Merry Christmas to all Cheers Matt my 2c worth
G'day,
I also used to frequent that forum when I previously had a Fuji S7000 and the forum there seemed quite friendly, but once I invested in the DSLR I found those particular forums quite elitist and didn't have the friendly atmosphere and comeraderie shown and enjoyed by us all here... Any forum is only as good as the moderator and the members who contribute. Kudo's to all here, tis a friendly and fun place to be, that's why I'm here and probably why a lot of you are here too... Cheers Mudder Aka Andrew
