Well, as many of you will know, I have had the misfortune of spending the last week in hospital with pneumonia. Now that I'm back I'm confronted with:
OMG 3,380 posts
I'll spend the first week of my convalescence just catching up with what I've missed.
One trully amazing thing that came out of this was the number of people from here who got in touch with wishes for my speedy recovery and offers of help. A very humbling experience and yet another reminder of what a great place this is.
Thank you to each and every one of you.

Wow, I must have been a bit out of it too.. I didn't realise you'd gone anywhere, Peter!
Good to see you back anyway. I had nearly that many posts to wade through after my 2-week trip overseas in Jan.. The easiest thing to do is just to ignore all the old, and just pretend they were never posted
I assumed that anything important would be pointed out to me later anyway.

All I can do is wish you a speedy recovery, because until now I didn't even know you had so much as a sniffle.

It's terrific to hear the happy sound of your keyboard again, Peter.
It doesn't sound like an experience you need to repeat, so look after yourself.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

And you're a doctor
It's what they call a community virus. Floating around in the community waiting for a suitable host. My immune system was low following infected wisdom teeth which had been surgically removed a week before the pneumonia hit. Or I picked it up in hospital when getting my teeth out.

Get well wishes from me too Peter, I noticed your absense but I thought it was due to your teeth. Never mind about the 3000 odd posts, just read the ones in the humour section, that will make you feel better.

Yes and no, with a healthy interest in virology. Nasty superinfection if you came down with pneumonia. Normally, pneumonia affects the elderly. Not a fit 22 year old like yourself peter.
At any rate, welcome back

Welcome back stubbsy - GREAT to have you back matey! Nito - community aquired pneumonia ain't that uncommon. Peter - it's brilliant news you're on the mend - rest up and take is VERY easy for the next two weeks. Do that or I'll come up and sponge bath you!

Ah, to be 22 again. Yes you're right. At 50 I've never had a single illness other than the common cold. The infectious diseases people were a little puzzled too, but put it down to me being run down from my infected wisdom teeth. Pneumonia was well down the list since I lacked the "typical" symptoms until they compared two 3 day apart chest xrays, switched my anitibiotics to treat pneumonia & I started to get better.
