But it's a little different. Mainly because it's a different form of media - a calendar. Basically these are not GREAT photos, (ie. not arty more 'touristy' - You know those calendars of specific areas that you see in the newsagent?), so I am happy to sell for unlimited use but I have no idea what to charge.

Any ideas are welcome.

Cheers,
Owen.

Owen,

I sell my shots to a number of calendars and they pay anywhere between $100 and $400 per shot, per year to use your images. You don't sell them copyright to your pics, just usage of the images for a year.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Michael

How many photos do they want ? just a couple or 12?

Are you going to be taking the photos or have you already taken them and have them on file?

Do you get a title /byline on the calendar?

What is the total print run?

Will they use you next year?

These are the questions I would be asking calendars are a very fickle market now you have a 2 month window to sell them in and the market is already saturated.

You don't sell them copyright to your pics, just usage of the images for a year
this is correct unless they are willing to pay and pay well for copyright. They really don't need it anyway you are better to sell single usage rights but put it in a contract that it is for single use only.

Pick a number you think they can afford and go for it better to ask high and come down than to ask low and have them go "OK, Thats cheap!"

$100 to $400 per image sounds like a fair ballpark to start playing in.

Thanks guys. I emailed him a few questions last night so I will see what he says.

So far it's just the one photo but hopefully there will be more in the future. I didn't have the photo already, but took it as I was passing by somewhere.

I will wait and see what I hear back.

Cheers,
Owen.
