What an awesome image. It's even better than the link posted last week.

It's amazing to think that each of those thousands of galaxies contain thousands of stars around which planets orbit.

The sheer maths of it mean that somewhere out there is a civilisation so advanced that they only have Nikons and photographers are revered as gods....

:D

Wowza, it reminds me of wallpaper for a kids room, with stars and galaxies, and turn of the lights it glows in the dark. Incredible stuff!

:) Apparently the exposure time on the image was 1 million seconds... about 3 months I think.

edit: maybe not 3 months... my maths isn't too good, does anyone smart want to have a go? maybe it's 11.5 days.

Thanks, I'm not going batty. One of the sites I was reading said it was a 3 month exposure.... well it's either one or the other.

Well three months would be more like 7.7 Million seconds. Imagine if you had noise reduction turned on

Owen, maybe they meant the exposures were taken over a 3 month period. It certainly wasn't a continuous 1 million second exposure ;)
