Hi All
A couple of quick questions, I went out today and took about 40 pics, of those maybe 4 are worth submitting here.
Tomorrow I would like to get out and take more, so how many would be too many?

Question two, is it better to embed an image into a post or supply a link to a photo?

I prefer images embedded in the post.....

how many would be too many? to include in one post? I would say max 8, but that's just me.

Can I just confirm are you asking how many shots you can post ? If so then there isn't a hard and fast limit.

If you are asking how many shots should to take on your camera, definitely no limit.


I'd say most people are happy with embedded images just keep their longest side 800 pixels or below (so it doesn't screw up the forum size).
If you want to link to a bigger shot then do so, you can use a standard link, or use your smaller thumbnail as the link to the bigger shot.

If you are going to post a large number of shots in on thread, then it's polite to put a (DUW) in the title (Dial up Warning), however I don't think it's mandatory, just a nice thing to do for the poors sods on dialup.

Yes, I was asking if there was a limit to how many shots I should post, This is such a good forum I would not want to wear out my welcome and post too many.

I will also keep embeding my pics in the post, I keep my photo's to 650 pixels wide to not throw things out.

Actually, you're not quite right.

We normally prefer people to post a maximum of 10-12 images per post, and if you would like to post more, make a second or third post directly underneath the first with some words like "More images added soon", post it, and then go back and edit the said post with the right BBCode to display the images.

Why?

It keeps it more structured.

I usually go after people who post 15-25 images in a single post but it doesn't happen often.

i usually like to have 600 as the longest edge as i usually post quite a few images to try and tell a story... that way the images are small enough to not cripple some of the slower net connections hovering around...

also.. i'd rather see embedded shots in the post as some times i'll just keep passing by if i'm busy and too lazy to go chasing links...

Thanks clearing that up Leigh, I didn't realise this, and will try to modify my posting habits, as this wasn't how I was doing it. By posts you do mean, in the same thread correct ? So that I affectively have the first three posts in a thread, containinng 10-12 images.

Each thread can contain an infinite amount of images.

Each post should contain about 10-12 max.

It just makes it a little easier to navigate.

So I can choose to say have 26 images in a thread in a series and for the point of making it easier to number and look through, it'll be 10 on post 1, 10 on post 2, 6 on post 3, or whatever.

Of course if you do put say more than 4 or 5 images in a THREAD I'd suggest the thread title include some sort of dial up warning since those still on dial up will find a thread with 26 x 200K images a bit of an annoyance

The other option if you really do want to post shedloads of images in the one post is to thumbnail them, e.g. http://dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15033. Probably a bit less exposure to your images than usual, but that way people only have to load 20 kB instead of 200 kB if it doesn't interest them.
