D200 ISO1600 shotsThis may have been done to death here, but for those that care. D200 ISO1600, Nikon 12-24mm f4. Not a very nice subject or photo, but great to see any noise in shadow detail.
f4, 1/30th sec, hand held. 12mm, No NR or PP or sharpening, just resized from jpg. 100% crop f4, 1/60 sec, 14mm, No NR or PP or sharpening, just resized from jpg. Andrew

Re: D200 ISO1600 shots
I like the composition on the third image. I suspect you could develop it a little into quite an interesting shot. Oh, ooops, this isn't C&C... noise isn't too shabby either. I'll be interested to see how the 30D compares when I make it to a meetup. http://www.moz.net.nz
have bicycle, will go to Critical Mass
Andrew I'm interested as, I suspect, are the others with preorders waiting to come through on our D200.
Looks pretty good for the subject matter. wonder how raw files react to the noise in the shadow detail at high ISO. Also be interested to see/hear the analysis of other members re- these samples other members with more experience and knowledge on this matter have to say. cheers marco
Those look quite good noise wise.
What level on in-cam noise reduction did you do? Looks like there is some smearing of detail in the 100% crop. I'd be very interested to see a 100% crop from a RAW file with no noise reduction. Paul http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com
Living in poverty due to my addiction to NIKON... Is there a clinic that can help me?
Paul, I have HI ISO NR turned off. Yeah RAW would contain more detail, and I normally shoot RAW, but this little non-scientific test was a quick no-brainer test. cheers, Andrew

Wow,
I'm surprised that you had NR off. I know the JPEG has NR applied at ISO1600 even if you turn it off.... but that's still pretty darn clean! The D200 is looking better every day... now only if I could find a shop with one I can play with Paul http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com

The S3 is still the best Nikon F-mount high ISO champ. The noise is a bit better, but the loss of detail in the D200 compared to the S3 causes more issues. Andrew

Switch back to Fuji? Birddog114

Do you still have any D70? Birddog114

One other thing. Both D200 and S3 are better then ISO1600 film prints.
With the plethora of quality DSLR's on the market, it's easy to forget how bad those ISO1600 film prints were. Andrew
