Photo costs

Anyone have a price point for what to charge for photos?

I've never really charged people for photos, its always been a hobby and if someone wants a photo I get it printed and charge them for it plus a bit extra.
Not really enough to give up my day job, but my new 4400 amd X2 is a benefit.
Normally it’s just for their wall, but now I have two photos someone wants to use for a vehicle wrap and to go in an advert in a magazine. This obviously means I’m just handing a disk over with the files, my cost being a cd and time to burn the thing.
I’ve had photos published in the Canine Associations magazine, but I let them use that with my photo credit so people know me, and the canine is non profit. Well now that’s paying off so to speak, but I just really want to know what the going rate is for charging for the commercial use of my photos.

I'm not entirely sure how I see a fast processor an advantage for printing, but regardless, what printer do you use?

The processor was the purchased from cash raised by selling prints.

I use an ip4000 at home and SP-540V Roland for Canvas prints and get camera house to print up anything bigger than A4. I can use the Roland for big prints, but its not really a photo printer and I cant find any paper I’m happy with for it.

Well, honestly, the iP4000 doesn't exactly have the shelf-life of it's Epson or even dye-sub brothers and sisters with Canon inks rated (aside for the 8 series) for only 15 years max.

Get yourself an R800 or R1800 and you'd start talking professional quality there.

You could also change your iP4000 over to better inks with a CIS, but it comes down to the sort of call you want to make.

the papers pay $90 for a crap shot of a b grade celebrity

if your work is considered appealing in an artistic sense you can charge from $100 to thousands

if you want to make friends $20 just to cover your costs

It was never bought with the intention of using it for selling prints, i just needed a cheap printer that could do cd's and be good enough to do prints and fit into my budget at the time.
If a new printer is coming it wil be a R2400, but i cant stretch to 1500 bucks yet, although i could if i charge the right amount for the these photos i'm selling :)

not really artistic, just going the side of a holden combo.
