Greetings all,

I too received an email the other day asking if I would swap my Nikon gear and replacing it with another manufacturers product. I have always been very happy with my D2X, it's a very fine product but there has also been that lingering thought in the back of my mind as to what it would be like using the "other product".

Well since Peter and Glen started the ball rolling earlier this week, it gave me time to seriously think the senario over. The benefits of this other product is very comprehensive, it has a myriad of features that Nikon cannot match. The major one for me being that it's full frame.

The price offered to me for this camera would be considered as a "steal". Definitely cheaper than purchasing a Nikon D50 (body only).

I have just receive my package today and have just checked the camera out. Although the buffer and FPS cannot match the Nikon D2x, the fact that it's full frame really makes this camera shine.

I am in the process of loading a picture of this camera on the internet for all to see and appear on this thread later on. Just sit tight!

What I want to know is when is Canon going to sell me some of the lenses that they have been gathering

Why do people have to trade in there nikons? why not go "Bi" You get the best of both...great AF and Flash with Nikon and silky smooth high iso files with canon.

You have convinced me to go that way also. I have sourced a second hand D70 and some lenses and the thought of being able to swap them 1 for 1 and pick up 12 months warrenty is just too good to let go. Sorry Nikon...it's been great knowing you.

hope you enjoy your new toy, but I am wondering... you traded in your D2X + some top-up money for which camera model ? Hopefully not the 5D, but the 1DsMkII.

Yep.

One of the problems with the FF Canons is that the wide-angle lens options for Canon aren't as good as Nikons (IMHO). I know of a number of guys who have the 1DsMkII and use the Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 on them via adapters rather than use the Canon equivalent lenses.

But for field of view ... on a FF Canon body you can use the 24-70 or similar which gives the same field of view as the 17-35 on the Nikon crop body.

Yep, the 17-40/4 is quite good, most of the Canon people I know use that instead of the much more expensive Canon 16/17-35/2.8 lenses

Yep, I wasn't discounting that, but if you have a FF DSLR, you'd want to use your 16/17-35, just as you did with your Film camera. And I posted that comment in reference to shutterbug's comment about not having to trade in ALL your gear - you can keep your Nikon lenses (well, at least some of them) as there are people who'd use a Nikon wide-angle or even Carl Zeiss wide-angle on their bodies than the Canon equivalents.

Are you finding parallax error to be a major problem with the MaxiBrite (TM) viewfinder? Apparently the AF speed is quite impressive

After further research you've been had! At least for a D2X trade, you should have been able to pick up a 120CFN!

The holga takes 6cmx6cm so the maximum number of frames is 24.

It's actually more accurate to not look through the MaxiBrite (TM) viewfinder

AF speed? Thats a funny one! It's got 4 setting, a picture with one person in it (supposedly to represent 1 metre), a picture with 2 adults and one child holding hands (3 metres), a picture with 8 adults holding hands (10 metres) and a mountain (infinity)

The exposure mode very complicated as well, you either select the sun or the cloud.

Great work Andrew. The best I have read in days. Reminds me of my Zenit days. Speaking of Russian, (or should I say rushing?) its a bit like the Berlin wall has come down and everyone is running over...just because they can. When they get there it all looks pretty much the same but the trip was a rush.
