Has anyone else ordered a Zeiss lens since the ZF glass came out?

It's very strange, fill out the order form and then some third party company will contact me regarding payment. I'm guessing that is a credit card payment. The third party company then lets Zeiss know that the item has been paid for and then ships it.

Also, at the time of order you don't know how much shipping will cost until the third party company works it out.

Really strange! Very un-German and a poor internet sales structure!

Zeiss did mention that they were trying to build up a worldwide distribution network when they announced the ZFs, but seems strange that they would get a third party to contact you for the payment instead of just doing the payment directly on their website.

How much did you pay for the ZF lenses ? 499 Euro for the 50/1.4 and 999 Euro for the 85/1.4 ?

That does not sound that strange to me. It is not so unusual to farm out the payment side of things to third parties these days. Think Paypal, ShareIt or any other such company. The actual details vary, but they all amount to pretty much the same thing.
I have to admit though that I prefer to deal direct, but I understand that some companies might like to save themselves the hassle, particularly on international transactions... and just pay the fees.

ic. Hope you get it soon and enjoy your new toy. Do let us know how it goes. I was hoping when they announced the prices of 499 and 999 that they were RRP prices, and street prices from the distributors would be less.

499 & 999 euro is what they are selling direct now, you have to pay for that amount eventhough it was shipped from one of their initial resellers atm till they setup their worldwide disti or resellers.
Warranty or stock returned for credit do have to send the lens back to German.
I have inquired about those lenses and the answer from them is not fruitful and no promise of any helps if we are going to be hit with a lemon.

What is with Ziess. I received the following email from them.

Just relax and stay still! wait for a few more months.
Won't be anything happens overnight and that's how the German system works.

Having read the stuff about these ZF lenses do you feel that they will be that much better than anything with a Nikon badge on it?

Not cricising but I guess I just don't get the idea when Nikon make decent glass in the range already. The ZF's don't seem to be anything that special except for the badge?

No one has tried the new Zeiss lens yet, and juries are not out either so no verdict.

In Nikkor range, some of Nikkor gems were discontinued and Zeiss is going to fill up the gap(?) which Nikon may not re-introduce them.

Talking here with MF and fast lenses/ not zoom or AF.

True in part birdy. I have not tired one myself, but have seen about 100 test shots with the 50mm. Looks good, but i'll only know when i print a 16x20 with it.

I previously owned a nikkor 50mm f1.4 and wasn't that impressed with it, so i sold it. I was keeping an eye for the 58mm f1.2, but they've become a collectors item now and doubled in price. So i'll try the Ziess.

If it's rubbish, i'll flick it. If it's great glass, as 50mm Ziess glass is renowned for, then i'll keep it.

Good luck with the Zeiss, they look very sexy if you ask me.

Hopefully you have time later on to show us some photos of your new Zeiss.

Thanks for that. It is obviously a niche market for "real" photographers who demand the ultimate.
