Easter Trip to Flinders Range NP, etc...

I've been a bit quiet lately, as I've been flat out planning my Easter trip - this time I'm taking Little Sheepie over to see his cousins in Adelaide.

Well, more than just that really, "to Adelaide and beyond" to borrow a similar phrase from a really cool movie ;)

Image

Map is in five sections, mirroring the major parts of the trip -

1. Sydney to Hattah-Kulkyne National Park - where we'll camp for Easter weekend with my brother (who's coming over from Adelaide to join us).

2. Hattah to Adelaide on Easter Monday. Will spend the Tuesday recovering and re-stocking. Also hope to catch up with Fozzie and some others from Adelaide, perhaps for a not-too-late dinner ;)

3. Adelaide to Flinders Range National Park - via Port Augusta and Quorn (going to go on the Steam Train). Staying somewhere in the Flinders for 4 nights.

4. Flinders Range to Broken Hill - staying here 3 nights.

5. Broken Hill to Sydney via Dubbo (staying overnight at the zoo!).

It's going to be a loooong trip, camping almost all the way. Really looking forward to it.

Any suggestions for things along the way I should look out for would be appreciated. Obviously, I've been doing a fair bit of research, but any first-hand knowledge people have of these areas would be great!

sheepie - very ambitious journey. Sincerley hope that it will be a safe journey for you and your family.

I am still available to meet up on the Tuesday night in Adelaide should time permit.

Thanks guys - yes, it is a big trip - Total of around 5,000 km's I reckon.
It's being done over a period of 18 days total. The final leg (Broken Hill to Sydney), for example, will take us 4 days.
There's only once where I'm doing more than 300km two days straight, and that's the first two days.

Looking forward to seeing some 'real' parts of the country, looking forward to being away for a while, not so looking forward to the mess that'll be at work when I return, and definately not looking forward to the 4000+ messages on here when I get back!!!

Have a good, safe trip the Sheepies.

And prepare for the big fuel bill at the end! $1.50/ litre is on the move and far more at the Outback.

Leon,

I'm jealous

sounds like a great trip. You certainly are covering a lot of territory. You are driving through some amazing territory.

Looking forward to the pics when you get back,

Stay safe and have a great time.

Cheers,

André
(PS: don't watch the movie "Wolf Creek" before going  )

Sheepie,

Delprats Mine in Broken Hill is worth a visit:

The town's mining history can be experienced first-hand at Delprats Underground Tourist Mine. This 2-hr tour will take you deep inside one of BHP's old mines in a cage with miner's hat and light. The site is five minutes drive from the visitor's centre. Head south on Iodine St and, once across the railway tracks, turn right following the signs. Tours are held at 10.30 am weekdays and at 2 pm on Saturdays (08) 8088 1604. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before commencement.

Don't forget the SB800! :D

Drive safely and enjoy!

Yeah, that too - but more due to the mass of reading and other research I've been doing ;)
