Batch Re-Naming

Postby W00DY on Mon Dec 27, 2004 8:47 pm

Hi All,

Is there a way you can re-name all the images in a particular folder?

I have looked through Nikon View and can't seem to see a menu item for this.

Cheers,

Both Compupic Pro and ACDSee have batch renaming capabilities.

I also have an excellent little program called Flash Renamer which is handy for renaming in many file situations.

This can be done from Photoshop CS if you have it? If you need more info let me know.

I only have Photoshop 7. Does this do it?

I will have a look at the menu.

I think Photoshop 7 does do it. From memory, if you go to the PS browser and then click on the little arrow top right...it should enable a menu that allows you to batch rename. A word of warning...make sure the file names ends with jpg, or you will have to manually rename each image. Start with a folder that has only 2 images in it to make sure you are doing it right before you commit to a folder holding 100's of images,

Irfanview's a free little program that can do batch conversions and batch renames.

There is an easier way to rename phoos without opening a program. Open folder, select al, right click, rename. All files will have (name)+(#) where as number sarts at 1 and increases.

works in XP.

You can also do it in Nikon View. Just highlight all of the pictures you want to convert, right click and select "rename a file or folder". You then get a window where you can choose the names and it will number them. This is also very quick.

ACDSEE or IRAFRAN View are my personal free programs for batch renaming. Otherwise any Photoshop ver 5 or later works extremely well too.
