D70 actuations

I finally managed to work out how many photos my 15 month old D70 has taken with thanks to a fellow member. I am around the 15K mark at the moment which is about 1000 per month. :D

I remember a long time ago someone asking what frame count d70 users were up to. My old but beautiful F3, FE2 and 601 are still all going strong and some of them are almost 20 yrs old. Touch wood, my D70 has worked remarkably well during the 15 months I have had it. I would hope to get at least 50K out of it.

Do you think this is possible? Who has a photo count above 30K or 40K on their D70? >50K? Give me some hope. :o We often only hear of the 'failed' D70's. Surely there are some legendary tanks out there.

Kind regards

Peter Mc

did you use opanda to find out your actuations?

You must chase up this story

"Well, it's dead. I killed it. No more photos for me for a while. Nikon repair gods please be quick!

My shutter finally died. After 3 months and 5 days and 119,457 photos. All I get now when I hit the shutter button now is a very quiet clicking noise - and the Err message. I looked inside my camera and the black shutter cloth is covering the CCD. I guess that means my shutter is dead?

I guess I can't complain too much. (But I was starting to think I might get as many photos out of my D70 as I did from some of my P&S digitals.)"
Which is found on

A strange character and story, but it indicates that you have a long way to go before you need a replacement shutter

I did use Opanda. It's brilliant. :)

Dargan

It has surpassed my wildest expectations and what a way for it to die over the 100K mark. Great read and thanks for the link.

I now have the hope I was looking for. Can anyone beat 119,457?

I wonder what happened with the warranty?

But in THREE months and all he took was photos of his pomeranians. I think he must have used the D70 in his sleep.

Hi Dargan!

My shutter finally died. After 3 months and 5 days and 119,457 photos

Something does not quite sound right with the above figures you shot about 1257 images a day!

I am not an opanda expert and it took me a while to find it. I have a shortcut called OPANDA IEXIF 2. I simply drag my last photo into the EXIF data part and way down towards the bottom is Total Number of Shots box which is 5th from the bottom.

Hope this helps.

Great stuff. 2024 in one day is quite an accomplishment.

The D70 is looking better all the time.

Just over 1 and a half years and 23k+ actuations on first D70, another one just under 1 year and 7k+ actuations.

Very comforting results. We should compile a long and complicated poll where all D70 users provide actuations & age of camera to determine the average usage. Some statistical people could have a field day. :o

Imagine the the conversation with your loved one. I have to go out now to take at least 2,000 more photos as my average is way below what is expected. Are any of the photos any good?...minor issue.

I think the best score so far for a D70 member who actually took the photos is over 70K. This is very impressive.

just checked mine...I obviously dont take enough shots...
after 1year and a bit...only 7334 shots
at this rate my D70 should last the next 20 years!!!!

hmmm wonder how obsolete it will be by then

My D70 has around 18k shutter actuations on it. It was retired in April last year (8 months old at the time) and has only had a 100 or so exposures since to make sure it still works. At that rate it should last for a few more centuries.
