I was a big fan of Fotogenetic's Provia. Then Provia_D70 by D70 Knowledge Base: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dltucker/nikond70/home.htm

G'day,
I've only just started playing with curves, but at the moment I'm using Digital Agfa Optima (I think that's what it's called)...

Need to play with others though and be more in tune with how the situation at hand, lighting, prevailing weather conditions etc interact with and influence the cam's requirements...

Cheers,
Mudder

For landscapes I apply "Velvia Vision" from Fred Miranda in post processing (safer, I think...)

My preferred curve is Oldskools sReala - a curve that is not too aggressive, gives good contrast and some exposure compensation. I also use the Normal or Low Contrast Curve for some situations.

If I get it wrong, I use Curve Surgery Pro to replace the curve with something more appropriate during post processing.

Cheers

with regard to "low contrast" curve builtin, does it maen its designed FOR low contrast situations, or it is a curve that will result in low contrastive photos?

It will give you a lower contrast result - in other words, for harsher lighting conditions.

Hi Matt,

Are you one of the Raw Magick beta testers?

Cheers

Fotogenic's Provia 3.4 here. Haven't bothered using any other curves yet, as this one has diminished my post-processing a lot. :)

G'day,
This is proving to be quite addictive... I'm now playing with a curve known affectionately as "Mudders hack" curve... A modified Digital Agfa Optima...

Mudder

I distinctly remember there being a "snow white" curve or something similarly named - it brings all values to 255, hence giving the all white appearance. A good way to mask what you're shooting in the field, and reverting back to a standard tone curve in PP would reveal the image taken.

Useful if you shoot sensitive subjects so security or law enforcement cannot see what you shot. Good way to lose complete functionality of the LCD preview too.

Hmmmm....

What about snow shots?

And, you can achieve the same effect in this forum by changing your font colour to white.

Happy New Year to all forum members.

No, but I am seriously considering purchasing the beta version. Maybe later in the new year. My workflow is a little awkward with CSP, NC and PSCS. From what I have seen, read and my expereience with CSP, RawMagick should be worthwhile. Iliah and Peter are both enthusiasts who seem to know more than a thing or two about software engineering, photography and how to make it all work together, so I really look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Interesting article on tone curves (well I found it interesting, YMMV) including d/l link to the bh_snow1.ntc curve (turns everything white).

I have White Wedding loaded in camera but never shoot with it on. Maybe I just need to find a better one for what I shoot :?
I will apply PP tones sometime but usually tweek it for myself.
Can anyone suggest a good alround curve for outdoors animal, scene, and floral shooting :?:
Also I shoot RAW are they as easy to remove as to add if not I'll stick to PP :?:

I am going to try and delve into curves a little in the next couple of nights. So wish me luck.

Also did anyone look at this guys (in the post above) website? Some great images in there.

Woody,

Probably the easiest way to evaluate the effect of the various curves is to grab a copy of CSP or RML from the RawMagick website.

Cheers

Not sure if you meant my album or not, if so, then thanks.....unfortunately it needs updating big time, and none of the images are with the D70......but hope to add some soon...

....if you weren't talking about me.....then just ignore this whole message

With Curve Surgery (or Raw Magick) you can play with curves as much as you like - changing curves is easy. With Capture, only the in-camera curves can be substituted for what the image was taken with. One question, if you've never shot with the WW curve, why do you think you need a better one? I think the WW curve (now the P&S) is fairly useful, but no curve is the best for all situations, just like no film was the best. Now though, we are able to change the "film" after we take the picture. Sorry about the nostalgia, but I've been 30 years SLR, <1 year DSLR.
