Hi all d70ers,

I am going to bother you with the biggest disaster in SEA that we are
becoming aware of as it has happened and is continuing to happen.
I'm sort of bumping a thread that has already evolved into bringing up conciousness about the tragedy that has happened in SEA.
I'd really like to get everyone aware of what has happened and what is still happening.
Please contribute however you can with donations.
We are a wealthy bunch, we can contribute.

Oh, I'm a bad person.
I'm bumping threads - bit it is for a very good reason.
I will continue to do this just to make sure that the TSUNAMI disaster in SEA has been brought to everyones attention.

Hi Christian
I just discussed this with friends tonight.
We (especially me) lust after photographic equipment that would cost the average annual income of some of the people who have suffered in this tragedy.
Whole villages have lost their menfolk and their sole means of income - they need our help.
I'm going to postpone some photographic purchases that I was planning, and instead send the money via Red Cross to help. Touch wood, I'll be able to catch up later - others are not so lucky.
I'm sure each of us will do what is appropriate in our own circumstances.

Let us think about the devastation the tsunami has brought to a number of countries.
Let us think about the grief that it has caused to those who are injured, those who have lost their loved ones, those who don't know where their family or partners are.
Those who will never see their parents again.
Those who are suffering now and will continue to suffer.
Those who will suffer in the future.
Think about those and consider contributing to organisations that are helping these people.
We are people who are financially well off.
We are contemplating what toy to buy next.
There are people who have lost all and are literately up shit creek.
These people need our support and we are wealthy and can give.

Help these guys, girls and children.
It is worthwhile.

Hi All,
We're in a very sad mood in the last few days when the disaster happened in SEA, I'm in Organizer Committee to organize a pray at the Buddish Temple tomorrow morning at 10:00am for all the people in the disaster area same as running a fund raising for them. Hope these small contribution will flow smoothly to the needies.
We pray and pray and wish them quickly recover and get their feet back into their daily life.

I haven’t had a TV for about 3 weeks because of a lightning strike.
So the first I heard of this terrible thing was from some one I meet at a Xmas party.

Mother Nature!!! she is beautiful & very unstable to go with it, we have alot to understand about her.
My self & my wife have sent a little money over to help them get back on track

Install a PCTV card into your new HP and get it on daily life, the kids are not happy without a TV.

This truly is tragic. In the past, I've heard of the worst tragedies in the most obscure ways. This was no exception. The first I heard of this disaster was listening to the cricket commentary in a friend's car - the Sri Lankan criket team in NZ were expressing their loss. At first, I had thought it was an incident of international terrorism, as the loss of lives announced was horrendous. Then it became clear that it was an unnamed tsunami. Still no comfort that it was not the responsibility of misguided individuals.

Hi all D70ers,

I hate to be a pain in the a*s. But the peoples need our help.
You will already know that the suffering and pain in SEA following the TSUNAMI has just started and I guess we might not be able to comprehend how far it is going for these peoples.
I'd just like to plea: please if anybody could make a contribution no matter how large or how small. Anything will help.
The survivors are going through the apocalypse, literately.
Have a look at the available news sources.
What is currently happening there as we speak and is happening there tomorrow is beyond any horror we have ever seen.
Please help these people as much as you can.

we all very close to arriving in 2005.
I would like to run some scenarious past you regarding the TSUNAMI in SEA.
Imagine that you have lost everything today and will arrive not finding anything tomorrow either. Imgine you have lost your family, your parents, your spouse and what you knew is gone and you don't have food, water and a loo.
Imagine the corpses are piling up everywhere and are rotting away.
Unimagineable !!!

I returned Xmas presents that where wanted but not needed and added some more $ from my Sigma 80-400 OS saving account
If I have to wait a month or two more I'll live maybe it will help some that might not
I will miss the 62 to 67 step up for my B+W CPL but that can be replaced some things can't.
When reading this it sounds calis it's not like I'm giving up eating but shooting keeps my head on straight. Maybe I can eat more Mac&Cheese and add a little more $  BTW:
I've beem a working stiff for 30+ years and by no means am I "Rich" in the monitary sence, I'm Rich in name only
I am more blessed I come home to a woman that loves me every night everthing else is gravy
I'll give up rich for blessed any day.
Don't think of blessed in the religious scence, I'm not just very lucky man

I wish I could do more! I think it is so terrible that this has happened, so many people caught unaware. I feel really bad for all the desperate people.
I have put off my purchase of the 70-200VR to donate instead to CARE Aus. I have made a plan to donate money in the future too, as they will need help for the hard times ahead. One day I will visit the area and I know they will be better with our help. Please help too.

I'm in the Orgaizer Committee and volunteer as their official photographer with my daughter as my assistance in this event.

We went to SBS in Hebert St, Artamon yesterday afternoon.

It shows on a different scale what damage has been done and how much work is required right now and for a number of years to come.
Birddog114 put it quite eloquently in a conversation this morning that the whole disaster requires many years (10 or more) to recover from and that the peoples have his heartfelt attention.
Vietnam suffered from the war 30 years ago and he is well aware what needs to be done and how long it takes.
I would like to bring to your attention this URL and also make you aware of the tasks ahead.
Please appreciate that more help beyond urgent initial releif is and will be required.

Sending this post from Borneo. So sad what has happened and lots of people talking about it over here. Fortunately for us we weren't affected by the tsunami. Called my family to let them know we were ok as they were weorried. So sad to hear about lots of other people who have been. This is the first time in 2 weeks that I've been near a computer, phone or television and I was shocked to hear about what has happened.

My thoughts go out to all those who have lost so much. Good to hear though that so many people are pulling together and donating etc.

There are some really astounding photos of Khao LakHERE.

They were taken from one of the helicopters flying over some of the worst-hit areas... The photos were taken with a Canon EOS-1D, but that doesn't make the photos any less amazing... They really bring home the true level of devastation involved...

A huge effort was experienced tonight.
More than 15 million dollars were donated tonight during a concert in Sydney.
This is a fantastic donation.

more support is needed for the next 10 years.
The rebuilding of these places will take a long time.

While the Sydney chapter held our long lens workshop, across the bridge on the steps of the Opera House were the fundraising concerts with media helicopters hovering above.

Our Sydney chapter's morning meet also raised a fair sum for the victims of the tsunami. While there were a page full of names and a tin full of money courtesy of many who attended, I believe there should be a mention and acknowledgement of the generosity of one individual, Glen Curyer, who made an incredibly sizeable donation to the VABAT fund. He could have purchased an SB800 flash unit or almost a 24-120VR lens with the amount he chose to donate! And he's heading to Thailand in 24 hours.... Your charity and humility is truly inspirational Glen!
