Came accros this interesting information regarding potential problems when using focus/ recompose method.

Interesting read, has alot of truth in it too, I find with the d70, the d70 sensor in the middle holds the most focus control, the other 4 focus points are slack on focusing in low light

I don't see this article as being about the camera, but about technique.

Consider this summation statement:

If you focus-recompose in such conditions and get consistently back-focused shots, your camera's autofocus calibration is probably just fine. It's your bad technique that most likely the real culprit.


Bottom line is that you need to understand what you're doing and how different aspects of one's technique can impact upon others.

Agree Gary. The article highlights a flaw in the technique of focus and recompose. Very interesting read, explains some of my crap shots.

Quite enlightening. Normally I don't use ay from the outer focus areas because of their apparent innaccuracy compared to the centre one, refering to use it for focus locking prior to recomposure. I guess I'll be rethinking that strategy from now on.

thanks for the link, i will definately keep that in mind, i focus-recompose a lot. i guess i better be carefull :)
