Nikon glass on Canon 5DHi guys,
My partner has two 5D's. And he is thinking of buying the nikon-to-canon lens adapter so he can use some of my glass. I'm just wondering if the 28mm f1.4 will work on a 5D? I hear that the larger mirror in the 5D might hit the rear element of some Nikon glass. And the 28mm f1.4 rear element does protrude a little. Andrew

Re: Nikon glass on Canon 5D
Andrew, I think that, with the exception of a couple of very specialised lenses (6mm for instance) all non-DX glass should work just fine. I don't think that the 5D mirror moves forward during its travel, and non-DX glass has to work with Nikon film bodies which, too, will have a larger mirror, so while I'm not certain, I think it should be ok. That said, he's going to lose auto everything - focus, exposure, the lot - so the only thing he "gains" is the ability to use Nikkor glass, which, while good, isn't really going to be a significant gain considering what he's not going to get. I would think that better value - and usability - would be obtained by just getting the equivalent Canon glass. Image quality would certainly be comparable, and there's no loss in functionality. g.
