Wish I lived in QLD, I would certainly be entering.
Good link, and good luck to all the QLD members.

A great excuse to cross the border for a day or two, wonder if you must be a QLD resident to enter.
Guess I'll have to wait for the entry form to see.
Rel, thanks for posting the link.

I have requested a copy of the guidelines. With that sort of money I imagine that the competition will be hot.

Thanks for the link, judging by the response from this forum, there will be some stiff competition..
Bring on the guidelines????

Check the copyright details before entering.
I hope they are not pulling the same photo grab as the Australian tourism / Weekend Australian magazine competition where you sign over copyright and moral rights on entering

Don't stress guys - when you opened the link, it does state that the guidelines and application will be forwarded 'when it becomes available'. And seeing that it isn't due until July - will get here soon
(And doesn't open until the 24th of May, so I spose the application etc will be released then )
Bring on the comp
(not that I have a hope in hell !!!! )
LOL

According to the fine print they have carte blanch use of any image submitted, whether it wins or not.

Whilst I think thats unacceptable as do many I'd rather have 1 of my images swindled and have a chance at some recognition and prize money then no images swindled and no chance.

I shot a job for the department earlier this year. It was good work for a fair amount. I hope they are not using competitions to replace commercial shoots of small business to use in publications.
But having quickly read the small print I get the feeling this may be the case.
It is just making it more difficult to make a living as a photographer.

This is the reply I have sent to the department I will also be having words with my local state member.
I will probably never get to work for the department again, but then with competitions like this I would probably not get shoots like this anyway
Re: Section 23- 2nd sentence:- The words "By entering the awards" tells me that anyone who submits a photograph loses all right to payment, not just images those short-listed. In any case, all but the winners will be providing the Dept with free images.
This will be providing the department with free images at the expense of working photographers who run small businesses in Queensland.
Is this in line with your Department's policy for supporting small business?
Yours sincerly Doug Steley
