Here's a couple of mine : http://homepage.mac.com/micward/PhotoAlbum17.html

I posted this one on your DPR thread too.

2005 should provide even better results for me as i recently purchased a new 8" computer tracking telescope that i intend to put to good use over the next 10 or 20 years. I just need some clear skies for a change.

Killakoala,
What lens did you use to shoot this? Was this done with your tracking telescope?

Yes, sorry killa you did indeed I just checked.

Great shot, I can't wait till you post some of your new ones, that scope sounds great.
When you have time can you post a Pic of it and it's specs & how much if you don't mind me asking.

I love Astonomy and I'm infatuated with that great glowing monthly object we get to see full of a night.

I know, my wife says I need help a well.
you know thats where the name LUNATIC came from don't you LUNA.

Oh well I better stop.

Keep me posted.

LUNAMIC.

Not sure that 'proud' is the right word, but this is one I took in Coffs on Dec 28th with the Bigma. A bit disappointing. I was hoping an effective 750mm zoom would fill the frame a bit better.

Also screwed up the exposure pretty badly - it looked seriously overexposed in the preview, but seems I didn't take into account the fact it was dark when I was looking at it.

Image

EXIF: 500mm, f/6.3, 1/640th, ISO200, NEF.
Photoshop: Cropped, no resizing, colour balance, greyscaled, unsharp mask.

Seems ok, but definitely improved by PP.

Comments?

Hey Mebirok, welcome to the D70 forums! Great way to start off with the first post!

Is that multiple exposures or Photoshop work?

Thanks

Thanks skippy.

I have taken over 200 photos at that night. The next day, I have combined the best of them in one file at Photoshop.

Thanks again and I am happy to be here as a new member.

It's an interesting idea. Mind if I pinch it?

While I've done my fair share of moon shots, I find them pretty boring, they are all the same thing. There needs to be something else in the picture.

I think I posted this one on DPreview as well.

Hey Oneputt, nice shot! Super sharp. Makes mine look very ordinary.

Ta Skippy - used the Sigma 50-500mm, a nice sharp lens. :D

I quite like mine, too. Same lens, same subject. Think you managed to hold it a little steadier than I did though...

Favourite moment with that lens? Wandering around Western Plains zoo with a monopod attached but folded up, and a kid walking past made raygun noises! Bizarre moment. It gets a few comments, especially when someone sees it at 50mm then sees you zoom it out to 500mm.

Did have something strange happen though. Was taking a photo and the shutter stayed open. Pressing shutter button again did nothing, changing zoom and focus (otherwise known as "mystified fiddling") also did nothing, but turning the camera off closed the shutter, and it worked fine from then. Happened to you? It also seems to move a bit on the camera mount.

Hey Killa
Who are you trying to fool? That's not the moon...it's a macro shot of a grape that been converted to black and white!

Hey Arek,
Like the second one in particular. Nice sharp shadows. Going to have to try and get some crater shadow shots myself.
Excuse my ignorance, but what's Meade ETX?

Meade ETX is a little telescope that some of us poor photographers use before they can afford what Killakoala uses...:D :D

Like the second one myself. :D Just a tip for those who do not know. To my eye at least the moon at this time of the year appears closer to earth in the mornings rather than evenings. Shoot before dawn!

And stand on a step-ladder or a chair. It will get you closer and you won't have to zoom out so far! Also...a bit of fill flash works wonders!

Killakoala

I am very interested in that beast of a light gatherer you have just purchased, can't wait to see some celestrial objects posted here.

Mic.

I hope to get my kit setup on the weekend so i can take a photo of what i get up to at night :)

But if it's cloudy i won't. Today is nice but i have other things on and i get up early for work, so late night photography is out of the question. :(

When we do get some decent, non cloudy weather, i will take some pics and write a tutorial on astrophotography, inlcluding photos of my gear.

But be patient, i will do it.......

EDIT: http://forum.d70users.com/viewtopic.php ... hotography
A previous thread with some pics on it...
