Ebay advice... miscommunication?

I just fell into some confusion with ordering this lense (item # 7625383907 ) from "T-Dimension2" from ebay...

my message was as follows:

Hello,
I just clicked buy-it-now, and was proceeding to pay for this item via paypal, only to have an important last minute question I discovered due to confusion from your auction details...

Is this lense manufacturer #548-101 or #546-101... The 548-101 is the newer mid 2004-year EX DG Macro version (this text found on the front element of the lens) which distinguishes it from the older 2001-year model.

The image you are using is the older Sigma 546-101 lense, (reference it against the image from sigma photo website - http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses ... avigator=2) You are listing the specs as having 1:3.8 magnification which is, from my understanding, is only supported by the newer 548-101 EX DG MACRO version.

Please can you confirm which of the 2; 24-70 f/2.8 lenses this is, if it is the older version, I do not want to go ahead with my purchase.

I hope this can be cleared up for your future auctions, if it is the newer version, I will pay promptly.

I hope this will help others to make decisions on their purchases before they click buy-it-now... and then realise there could be a discrepancy...

They are using the old-version image, and have not added MACRO onto the ebay description, but they are quoting it as focusing down to 1:3.8 which seems to be a hall-mark of the newer version.
Magnification: 1:3.8

old version - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005 ... oding=UTF8

new version - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009E ... oding=UTF8

If this is the older version, am I justified in pulling out my "buy-it-now" contract I have entered into, based on miscommunicated knowledge?

From my experience, don't expect the seller's english communication skills to meet yours. You should "dumb down" the question to a simple form that maybe a year 3 child would understand, as it stands - you're apt to receive an unfungclunctious reply as they are likely not to understand you.

I would hazard a guess that by the volume of business T-Dimension does, (they are one of the major HK based online eGhey sellers IMHO), it would be the newer macro version.

Yes, I agree that your question is too complicated for a non-english speaker to understand.

T-Dimension is based in HK and so their customer support or the store owner if this is the case can not understand that question you wrote there fully.

Maybe you should ask him like:

"Hi, I will just want to know if this is the newest version of the Sigma 24-70mm EX."

or just ask the seller how long he had the lens for (when he ordered the stock in)...
