How much to crop

Below is a shot I took at Oran Park last week end.

Data is 1/640 @ f7.1 & 400mm using 80-400VR.

The first one is a wider crop showing the intended line the kart is about to take. Some would say this type of shot tells more of a story. The second one is a tighter crop featuring the primary subject only.

In motor sport which do you think is the preferred shot.

The second crop for sure.

The kart in the foreground is the focus of the image. You know he is racing the other karts in the background, but you don't need to include them all. The racing line he is taking isn't important, whats important is the other karts are BEHIND him.

Just MHO mate.

Definately crop #2 for me.

Shows a much more intimate picture. You can better see the concentration on the drivers face.

Nice shot by the way Barry. It certainly tells a story. That 80-400 is singing.

Another vote for #2 Barry. It takes you right in to the action. The first looks a little static to me, but the crop brings it alive and makes it a very good image.
