Hi,

I've got two things about my D70 that are bugging me. They are:

1. I seem to get a Err indication about every few hundred photos. Is this too often or is just the way things are?

2. Occasionally, the shutter release won't release. I can't see any reason for this as the camera has got focus lock and is apparently ready to go. Someone mentioned that they had had troubles with their shutter release and I wonder if they've had the same experience.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm planning to take it in for warranty service but since both faults are intermittent I wonder if I'll be believed.

check the aperture ring on your lens, if applicable

it happened to me the other day i had a tamrom lens on my d70 and i had manually set the aperture ring accidently, which wont work with the d70 ... it flashed error at me and i shat myself for about 15 minutes getting quite distressed , changed lenses and it worked, figured id busted my 300mm tamrom ... then realised it wasnt set to the Auto aperture position on the physical lens selector and all was well in the world again

other than that, never had a single problem .... and that was a user error, not the camera

Hi Bruce,
I had this exact same problem occur on my camera at around the 5000 photo mark, it was intermittent too but when I took Cameron (my D70) in for servicing it played up when I needed it to. I think this occurence is known at Maxwell and possibly in wider regions..perhaps check dpreview? It has something to do with (from memory) the appeture control lever, that's what they had to replace on mine and now it's as good as gold! Even though this is an intermittent problem they should trust that you wouldn't just take your beloved D70 in and be without it if there wasn't a problem. It could be what Geoff has mentioned. But also, check to see if your lens contacts are clean - it could be that occasionally your camera isn't getting a good contact with the lens contacts and you get the intermittent error.

This issue is not the No:2: SHUTTER RELEASE, I repeat: SHUTTER RELEASE
and it's happened to few members same as other members from dpreview.

Charlie, you did read correctly..my D70's name is Cameron . Tragic really isn't it? My fiancee and I don't have any kids yet, and we often talk about whether we should take 'cameron' with us to certain events/outings...hahaha.

I have called mine names, but they are the rather derogatory type - usually when I have this fantastic picture in my head that I'd like to take and it refuses to take it how I'd like (always user error, never the camera's fault, but I have to blame something!).

I'm just getting a spot of breakfast then I'm off to the old ship yards in Newcastle for trudge round with the camera, see what interesting shots I can find (and mess up!), hope you get your loved one fixed!

Number 1 has happened to me a few times with my Tamron28-300. I found the apature ring was not locked I just always thought it was me most likly is
It has never happened with the kit lens but then no ring.
Number 2 has happened a few times usually when trying to shot the sky or a lanscape where the sky is selected as the point of focus but in that case I never get the beep leting me know I had focus lock as soon as I changed the focus point or droped it off the sky and used Focus lock it fixed the problem again it was an IO error "Idiot Operator"
Not to say either is not a valid issue that can be caused by a real camera problem but in my case I can't think either was the fault of the camera and not me
I don't have a name for it but if it could talk I'm sure it would have a few for me. Most likely some thing to the effect of "OH BOY here come the walking IO Error"
