My monitor has an ambient light calibration feature. It came with a little gizmo that looks like a lollipop wth a hole in the middle. It's held against a colour palette displayed on the monitor, of which a colour is selected such that the hole and the rim of the lollipop look the same. This ambient light info is then worked into the monitor profile. I've got several monitor profiles for different times of the day, lamps I use, etc.

Cheers
Steffen.
