Ilford Smooth Pearl vs Smooth Gloss

Hi there,

I've only ever used Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper in my Epson R800 printer but am looking at getting some Ilford paper for my next batch

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Smooth Pearl and Smooth Gloss papers? Is it like glossy and matt?

Also, I've got my monitor/printer working quite well with Epson paper (Done by 'eye' not hardware calibration)... will I need to change anything if I change papers?

Thanks for any help
Paul

Pearl paper has very nice looking ... pearl finish :) It's something between matt and glossy. I like very much.

Profiles for paper and setting instructions could be downloaded from Ilford Profiles page

The Pearl is superb. I switched to it after reading here of glowing praise for it. I now won't use anything else. It adds a wonderful lustre to the finished print.

Whatever you do, don't get anything in the Classic range, ie. Classic Pearl or Classic Smooth as it won't be compatible with your model Epson.
